Warning about a checkout scam. A must-read.We booked one night at Coconut House in Chaweng through one of the world's leading booking sites. The welcome was horrible, but the woman looked at her paper and list, confirmed the check-in, and gave us the keys. The accommodation was rundown, there were toilet odors, and there was too much noise from music at night. However, the air conditioning worked. Despite everything, we wanted to extend our stay for one more night to go on an excursion the next morning at 7:30 AM.We went to the front desk to ask for an additional night, and that's when we experienced the most astonishing scam and nightmare. The woman told us rudely that we hadn't paid anything, claimed she didn’t work with the booking site, and demanded 1000 baht for the extra night, while the sites were offering 700 baht. We told her we had already paid through the site and that she knew it. She called an accomplice who spoke better English. The accomplice started to threaten us, saying she would call the police to arrest us if we didn't pay immediately.We had the hotel's listing (see photo) in front of us with our names and the booking site’s reference number! They couldn’t deny working with the site since we had proof right there. They became more aggressive, but we defended ourselves by showing our reservation on the phone, which matched their records. Eventually, they realized we had evidence to give to the police, and I was taking photos as well. We didn't pay, obviously didn't take the extra night, and left as quickly as possible, losing our excursion for the next day.This is the checkout scam we hope you never experience! We've visited Thailand five times for a month each time, and this was our worst memory. We are Google Guide level 6, this story is true, and we need to warn future tourists.

For around 20 euros a night you don't expect much. What you get is a room with a sewer smell. Bed felt sagging for 30 years, only limited use possible. The room is large, that's the only positive thing. Ground floor nice little terrace for smokers. Upper floor balcony fenced in prison feeling free. At night there is extremely loud sound from nearby night clubs. If you are a light sleeper, this is not suitable. Location top for nightlive.room service only partially good. If you like, spray a bottle of room spray per day in your room. Otherwise, clothing will ensure a long-lasting scent. No reasonable water pressure in the showers. Check the mattress protector and mine was disgusting. It was changed. I will never live here again. TV upstairs only 1 program and one volume. Ground floor size screen with extra programs like you tube I have been coming to Thailand for 23 years and have never had such bad accommodation.

Cheap and cheerful in the heart of the main strip. Very big but very old rooms. You get what you pay for. Quiet for what I can remember. The staff was very nice and friendly. No pool, but the beach is just across the road. Bike rental at reception and very reasonably priced. Would stay here again.

Exceptional: large and clean rooms, all with external terrace for smoking, impenetrable safe, very central in the Chaweng nightlife between shops, restaurants, pubs, but at the same time sheltered from chaotic noises as it is located in a small side street (without background) in front of the mini golf course and a lovely little restaurant, the "Thai Garden". Scooter rental directly at the hotel. All at a great price
