Rude, unfriendly staff! We booked a double room on arrival for 1 night, we asked to pay at check out and after a long pause were told it was "too busy" to pay the following day, despite us being able to pay at any time as we were taking an afternoon bus. He eventually agreed when we gave him a passport as deposit (offered by us).The room had a nice view over some buildings to the river, and a comfortable bed, but the sheets were stained including the pillowcases heavily stained (?saliva) and the bathroom stank of sewage as others have reported. There were ants in the bathroom corner on arrival, and by the following morning were all over our belongings in there. The shower was good but is right next to bare electrical wires for the extractor fan! There were 2 small sachets for toiletries, with empty refillable dispensers on the wall.Check out was 12 which we had confirmed verbally and with the sign on arrival - at 1135 we were abruptly told we had to check out now when returning from breakfast elsewhere. We paid and left and the guy didn't say a word or smile. No 'thank you' or 'goodbye', it was like we were talking to ourselves (and his English from the previous day was absolutely fine, or of course he could have spoken in Lao to us).Thankful we only needed a 1 night stay or we would have moved elsewhere. Better places to stay in the town for similar value and much friendlier treatment so I would avoid this place!

We stayed here one night it was great apart from the gaps in the wall of the bathroom, made showering an anxious experience. The bed was comfy and there is a nice lookout spot where you can sit and look at the Mekong river.

Found this place last minute looking for one night in Ban Houayxay. This was hands down the best hostel experience ever! The rooms were great, however it was the owners hospitality that made the stay amazing! Had a great time hanging out with them and locals from the area. Don’t miss this place!

Quiet for a relaxing place , you can do many activities by yourself such as morning exercise, many ethnic groups and villages surround the city.

The hotel was clean (although slightly rustic) and the staff was friendly. We extensively checked for bed bugs in two seperate rooms with none to be found.Rooms facing the street are kinda noisy.The upper level terrace is a great place to have a beer and watch the sunset over the giant Buddha on the opposite side of the river.
