Money driven and unpolite owners , distant from main surf spots in west Sumbawa. As we noticed how far was it from the main surf spots, we talked before our check in with the Staff and they authorized us to stay only the days we had paid on the day before arriving. Unfortunately, when we went to close our dinner and breakfast accounts and pay for the food we had eatten, the Owner demand us to pay for the days we would not use, the manager lied about the authorizaton she gave us, the Owner called the security guy armed with a gun to intimidate us and force the payment. We thank for the guy from the staff who confirmed the truth and allowed us to leave the hostile situation. Never experiencied a situation like that before , so I do not recommend the place.

A wonderful place, not far from deserted surf spots. Comfortable rooms, delicious food in the restaurant, great views of stunning sunsets, friendly staff... A place you want to come back to!

The Whales and Waves Resort is beautifully located by the sea, offering stunning views and picturesque landscapes in the surrounding area. The bungalows are spaced out, providing a good level of privacy, which is a nice touch.Unfortunately, these are the only positives I can highlight. Our arrival was far from warm and welcoming. There was no one to greet us or show us to the reception. The rooms are in desperate need of renovation; we experienced a faulty toilet, there was only one electrical outlet in the entire room, and the curtains were moldy. Additionally, it was impossible to obtain a printed invoice for our stay.A significant issue was that the room door would open whenever the bathroom door was opened due to the draft, indicating that the lock was improperly installed.The western receptionist, who appeared to be the manager, came across as cold and condescending. While the staff, in general, were friendly, they were incredibly slow and seemed untrained. It took an eternity for our orders to be taken.Despite the high prices, the food was merely mediocre. The resort grounds were riddled with construction sites, and dog feces remained on the lawn for days without being cleaned up. Additionally, the dogs on the property have a habit of chewing on shoes and not letting go.Moreover, the internet connection across the entire property was poor, with barely any reception. There were no lounge chairs, umbrellas, or seating options near the rooms, which made it difficult to relax outside. Additionally, swimming in front of the hotel is not an option as there is a plantation in the vicinity.Overall, the resort fails to live up to its promise. For the price, we expected much more. This resort does not meet Western standards at all. It was a disappointing experience, with the resort's charm being more superficial than genuine.

Can't say much on rooms but there are no facilities besides a toilet. Everything was under maintenance or not available.Some of the staff are nice but the majority are condescending, rude and unprofessional. Owners don't even care, they heard my complaint and just ignored me, I didn't think it was worth pursuing since they clearly watched me complaining as they literally stood next to the staff at the front desk as I aired my complaint. They even stopped the conversation they were having with their friends and watched me, then continued as I walked away. Typical Russian service. No tours available, nothing available for rent (even snorkels) no wonder the kids have to ride skateboards they must be so bored. The only activity was to play with the dogs which the owners clearly hated guests interacting with.Even when I asked for card payment, I explained you know it's illegal to charge a 5% fee and the response was "yes it's illegal" I'm not sure if it was a language issue but the service from the same member Ibisza was very rude, constantly talking over me and trying to finish my sentence whilst misunderstanding what I was trying to ask or request.Food was ridiculously overpriced and wrong, didn't understand what over easy eggs meant resulting in undercooked and half of what was promised on the menu, when I asked I was told yeah it's unavailable, after a battle of trying to correct what Ibisza was guessing my issue was. Can you imagine how frustrating it is when you try to ask for your eggs to be cooked a little more and the staff are constantly guessing " toast? Coffee? Avocado? Coconut? Ketchup?"Don't stay here, just try somewhere else, very rude staff, very overpriced, and they try to stuff the construction next door down your throat as an opportunity instead of an eyesore.Shame, it had potential but they don't even understand what a problem is.Edit to reply: Whoever replied here must have me confused with someone else, or fabricating a situation that didn't happen. Nice try.As I already said above I didn't stay, I came for breakfast and was very disappointed. Well done for acknowledging.The 5% was only added to card payments, if it was for service charge, why wasn't it added when I paid cash?I was never rude to staff and shame on you for trying to portray the situation differently. Just acknowledge your flaws and do better.Unfortunately based on your response it shows your willingness to lie and what people can expect when they stay. All I ask is do better and please feel free to share with any hotel you like, when I mentioned my terrible experience at whales and waves it came as no surprise to the other hotels and communities I stayed at. Congratulations.Edit 2: I challenge you to tell me the date I visited, because the only thing you have said that is true, is that I didn't stay which, I acknowledged in my first sentence.Terrible, how low of a character you must be to create a story trying to shame the customer when someone has a valid complaint. It actually explains a lot and I'm happy you can show potential guests your true colours.Other reviews prove the owner has a history of lying, and also paying for positive reviews. Make your decision wisely when choosing to stay.

Such a beautiful place to stay! beach front location with amazing sunsets every evening, the room was nice and cozy, staff are really friendly and helpfull , the food in the restaurant is delisious (the mahi-mahi fish steak is highly recommendet)! will come back again for sure!
