Arif the owner is the nicest, coolest, funniest guy! Showed us around the local village with super interesting information, helped us with booking ferry transport, picked us up, and just all round took care of us. Nice basic rooms and cool, chilled place on the water. Bit out of the way, so probably good for those with a scooter (which it can rent from him, as well as surf boards). Decent kitchen too. Thank you so much! We loved it!!

Definetly the best Accomodation on Nias!Arif is so nice and helps out wherever he cans. He will assist you booking ferry tickets and picks you up by the ferry if you book with him! You can easily reach him through Whatsapp 📲The Hostel is such a chill vibe with a pooltable.The rooms (Dorm and private Rooms) are nice and cheap and even breakfast is i cluded in the price 🍳You can also rent Motorbikes and Surfboards.They even offer Pizza nights and always have cold beer in the fridge 🍺He also took us on an Island Trip to see the Waterfall and the cultural Village, it was so much fun!Definitely a recommendation if you want to visit Nias, don’t think twice and choose Salty Dog 🐶 😉Thank you so much for everything, we will muss you ! 🥲

Very good stay with Arif and his family, with a superb, cool setting! I recommend it even more if you like the surfing scene, you will be served with good spots nearby (25 minutes by scooter) for the more experienced and a Beach break top spot for the more beginners and less nervous about surfing!!!The local breakfasts (sweet or savory) are great!Arif is also the best pizza maker 🍕 in the southern hemisphere, he must be Italian because there is some level 💪🏽 even if he tells me he is French!!!For information, for the visit to the traditional village Bawomataluo, even if the visit is free (made by Arif and very interesting given the architectural masterpiece and his passion), but don't do like us, take money for this village visit, because parking is paying, entry is paying, an offering is strongly recommended in the Big House, and for the ladies, cover your legs and arms because it can be frowned upon, but you can rent a traditional costume on place, if you are comfortable with that... 😉What I didn't like:To no longer have room in my stomach to continue eating more of your pizzas and to not have enough vacation time to not stay at your place any longer... 😂Thank you Arif for this stay, and for all your help!Looking forward to more Italian or French Indonesians!!!

Salty Dog Hostel was an amazing experience for me and my boyfriend. We stayed for about 1,5 weeks and we loved every second! The location and rooms were good and the common area was perfect for chilling, drinking beer and playing pool. But the best part of this hostel was the owner, Arif and his family. They were so welcoming, warm and helpful during our stay and even after it. Arif helped us with everything from ferry tickets to organizing transportation. He even came with us to ferry to make sure we get there safely. So thank you again Arif, we will come back there someday!!! 🥰🤝🏼

Thanks to Laia Emali descent from the original nias warriors,married with the daughter of the lasts chief in pulau nias,they make everything easy and they know perfectly what you need,every morning bring some breakfast,they make home made pizza,and I've you ask they make a fantastic bbq fish,soo fresh soo good.

Great time at the salty dog. Lovely people and Arif is a great owner very helpful. 15/20 mins from Sorake Beach. The location of the hostel is spot on. Secluded and right next to the water. Will 100% be coming back. Highly recommend.

Phenomenal hostel.I’ve been travelling about Southeast Asia for roughly four months and have been to many hostels, yet Salty Dog is by far the best. This is largely due to the host Arif and his family who welcomed all guests in as if they had already been part of their family for years. Other than this, the place is great value and ideally situated, as well as offering useful facilities like a kitchen and bike and board rental. The rooms are air conditioned and the occasional pizza nights are most bodacious.Numerous people recommended this hostel to me and now I will happily be continuing the cycle.

Best place to be around Teluk Dalam. Great hostel vibes, beautiful place, nice breakfast and an amazing host! Arif is not only a host, he treats his guests like family, help and care if needed, giving great advice and support, whatever you want to do or wherever you want to go.
