The concept of the farm was what attracted us. We drove over an hour on a scooter to check it out and upon arrival received a very unfriendly welcome. Tomas was mentioned in other reviews but was not there when we were there and the woman who was in charge was very closed off and somewhat hostile and sat right near us without talking or interacting (and we felt very watched)It Was 85,000 for a light buffet lunch. Some items were quite nice like the jam, the rest was cold and not the best overall considering all the great food available on the island.EDIT: the leashed, unvaccinated monkey also scratched my partner who had to get a rabies shot, and I am quite confident I became sick from the buffet (can’t be 100% sure but the timing works out and my partner didn’t eat there and didn’t get sick, we shared all other meals)

We stayed 3 nights in the Silimamombu farm, the place is very remote and calm overlooking the lake. They indeed prone zero waste and cook from their own production, vegetables and meat (pigs and chicken) which is a nice project. They gave us a tour of the farm and we tried the local wine. However, we felt uncomfortable about the way they educate their dogs (one got hardly punished with a stick for attacking a chicken), and the fact that the owner has a baby pet monkey on a leash or in a cage. We talked with the owner who says they found it, but it was a bit disturbing for us, as we were coming from Bukit Lawang where we did a trek to see wild monkeys in the jungle, we were a bit uncomfortable to see a domesticated one.As it is a farm, expect the rooms to be basic, with hard bed and only a small toilet shower, and also quite damp and noisy from 6am in the morning as we were under the kitchen preparing breakfast (room 7). If you can, maybe ask for rooms 1 to 4 overlooking the lake.We appreciated the diner homemade buffet, even though it is a bit expensive if you are a vegetarian, as it reduces your options.Overall we thought the prices were pretty high compared to other places in Sumatra.

Can’t recommend this place enough. Come with an open mind, leave with a full heart. Great self-sustaining mission and principled folks setting an example on how to live with the earth, not just on it.

My Girlfriend and I didn't stay there overnight, because we already had accommodation when we discovered this place through the internet. But we met a family with 3 kids that enjoyed their stay there pretty much. For us, it's honestly a bit too far away from Tuk Tuk or another village on samosir island. But that makes it a very calm and peaceful place, we had an amazing time here! We rented a SUP and used their Sauna throughout the day, which is fired by their own pizza oven! Between the sauna-runs we could jump into the lake and relax on deck chairs in their little bay. They welcomed us with fresh juice, cinnamon and citron pastries and for lunch we had an amazing all-you-can-eat-buffet. Ratna and her husband are very kind and everything they offer is homemade and -grown! They have a pretty big selection of homemade mango-spirits and other products, too, which we were allowed to taste. And what can I say, the mango-wine is so delicious, we couldn't resist buying a bottle! They have a bunch of cute puppies and even a 3-month-old baby monkey, which was one of the cutest things we ever saw. We had an amazing day at the ecovillage and experienced so many wonderful things for such a low price, we can do nothing but recommend this place. We would come back immediately!

Beautiful people, location and food. Tomas is amazing human being who are self aware of how important the environment and doing his best to make his community a better place. Good place if you want to try the minimalist lifestyle and learn more about recycling and farming

Superb eco-responsible project where we spent 4 nights, we learned a lot about local wildlife, local know-how, local products (fruits/vegetables/animals)The rooms are comfortable with private showers and toilets. The place is a real plus for relaxing and enjoying activities (paddle rental, boat rental, possible tour, sauna, discovery of the farm)We really enjoyed our stay, the food is very good and fresh without pesticides.Thank you for all these discoveries and we will definitely come back if we are in the area! The road to get there can be a bit long but it is worth the detour. Very nice meetings on site!

I didn’t not rent a room. I just passed by and got a warm welcome by Thomas - he runs the farm together with his friendly wife. He explained me the idea of the farm and showed me a bit around. I ate from the super tasty buffet while Thomas catered his homemade mango wine. It tastes more than sherry. Very interesting and I like it and bought some. Thanks a lot Ratnauli and Thomas 🙏

This was the highlight of our trip to Sumatra! The setting is amazing, right at lake Toba - the water here is ideal for swimming, as it's not polluted like in Tuktuk or Parapat. The team was fantastic, we learned so much about sustainable farming and living in a community. We learned to cook Indonesian dishes, learned about the mango wine production, sampled edible and medicinal plants and even made cinnamon from scratch! The food was amazing, all freshly cooked from productsgrown on the farm! Mama Hendra goes fishing early in the morning or evening, so there is always fresh lobster and fish for the day. I never ate this much delicious fruit in my life - the passionfruit and papaya are to die for ♥️ We liked how open and welcoming everyone was. The room was basic but clean and functional. The beds may be a bit hard but you get used to them after a couple of nights. The puppies and dogs were adorable and always ready to play ♥️! It is not a luxury stay but a farm experience, so keep that in mind when booking. Some of the projects and aspects are still in progress, so bring a bit of spontaineity and patience with you. It is so worth it , thanks for everything and see you next time 🤩😍🤩😍🥭😍🐒🌟, Alex and Reka
