The staff was awesome!! Mega super friendly and helpful! The owner wasn't there, but Ben and Matteo were. Ben went out of his way to give us travel tips and plan our day trips. He also helped us with every little thing. Matteo was also always there to answer any questions and cooked me a meal when I was sick to pick me up. My complaint is that the place doesn't have a cozy corner at all where you can enjoy time in the shade and read a book, for example. It only has the hard wooden chairs..

The place is comfortable, the service is friendly, as a driver and tour guide who comes from outside the city (Waingapu - East Sumba) I prepared a room to stay while the guests I brought were staying at this villa.

Visiting Sumba and staying at the Village Inn was truly amazing and an experience I will never forget. First of all, visiting Sumba turned out to better than expected. It was such an autentic remote island with beatiful nature, great waterfalls and great beaches. Second, staying in west Sumba was nice because most of the nice places are accessible by scooter (which you can rent by them) so the village inn was great for that. The staff there was super super friendly, and especially Ben was incredibly helpful. There isn't much information to find about Sumba online but he spent a lot of time with us explaining which places to visit and which roads to avoid (as some of them can be quite bad). He helped us get the most out of our stay and we really appreciate that and I’m sure other guests will too. Without it we would have been lost. The rooms are fine, and if you’re arriving late in the evening I recommend having snacks with you as there is quite a distance to the nearest shop. The Village Inn is this up-and-coming cozy stay in west Sumba with new owners who are in the process of making it a much better. For people who enjoy a good adventure, or just want to relax on the beach, Sumba and the Inn is a must visit. 10/10 stars for an awesome experience.

The owner was away, but purportedly left a trusted friend in charge. He might have been good at managing the work going on there, but he wasn’t great at managing guests. He told us in casual conversation that he doesn’t like Muslims or North Americans. We had already paid or we would have left. There were literally clouds of mosquitoes in our room. It took us 30 minutes to chase them out. They were oddly even under the mosquito net although when we got them chased out we didn’t have an issue overnight. To be fair, there was work going on so many issues might be rectified in upcoming months.

I think this is the cheapest place to stay in Sumba. The owner was very friendly and care to us. The staffs need to improve their skills about hospitality. The fact a lot of mosquitoes and other insects and animals around, so make sure always close the door or else will ended up like us.

The Village Inn was such a great find in West Sumba! Like others mentioned, it’s literally steps away from an idyllic beach and surrounded by natural beauty. The staff are super helpful and welcoming, and I was lucky to be there when the owner Antonio was on site. He truly cares for his guests, and more importantly, he cares for the local community that he has been a respected member of for many years.I will surely be back!
