No one personally informed us about the power outage during our stay at the Guesthouse. During this outage, the restaurant sign stood 'open' along the road while everything was locked, with no staff in sight. This made the designation "Boutique Guesthouse" very misleading, especially considering high season prices with service and experience more similar to low season. The room on the street side was also extremely noisy. When checking out, the staff seemed unconcerned with our complaints. We left a day early because of this unsatisfactory experience.

I recently went to Koh Mak and stumbled upon By the Sea. Although we didn't stay there (next time we will for sure) we had happy hour one night and dinner the next night. The food, drinks, and service were excellent. As well as the decor. This is a really nice boutique hotel and they didn't spare any expense on the details and decor. I'd highly recommend By the Sea.

We had dinner in the restaurant several times during our stay on Koh Mak and we can definitely recommend. The interior is super nice, the staff very friendly and the food and the drinks are delicious. They offer good vegetarian options and even a few vegan options which is usually difficult to find. Would definitely go there again.

The Hotel By the Sea on Koh Mak offers a prime location with direct proximity to the beach and the option to rent scooters on site. The transfer from the pier to the hotel was well organized and the hotel has a nice shop and snack bar. Although we didn't try the restaurant, we were impressed by the tasteful decor of the rooms, although our room had some minor blemishes. Occasionally there was an unpleasant smell in the room, possibly due to a problem with the bathroom drain. Nevertheless, our stay was overall pleasant, and the short distance to the beach was particularly convenient.We would definitely recommend it. In contrast to the previous reviews, we didn't have a problem with the sand flies, but you should still use coconut oil as a prophylaxis.

A lovely hotel with a beautiful pool area. It's conveniently located for restaurants within a couple of minutes walk, and also just a few minutes walk from Makathawnee pier where the speedboats come into.A water cooler provides free water so bring your own bottle. The drawback to this side of the island is the rubbish washed up on the beach, mainly plastic bottles. The hotels seem to do their best to clear it each day.

Very nice ambient and i recommend cocktail Mai Tai and Fresh ginger one ( i can’t remember what exactly name )the bartender said that’s his best cocktail he made. What impressed me the most was Nong Top. He is DJ. I like the music he chose. Once we started talking about the song and then I asked him to sing all night. If you like Maria Carey. He can sing every song and please don’t forget to buy drinks for him

In itself, this is a really great location. The owner or chef (I don't know for sure) tries hard. Unfortunately, a lot of effort was put into explaining why something was late or didn't go as it should. The presence (he comes to the tables and asks) is very well thought out. Unfortunately, the staff hired on site is really not well coordinated.In the restaurant you can't walk a meter without something in your hand! So you either carry something to the table or away from the table. Idling is just not professional.That may not seem so wild for a standard price/performance restaurant, especially in another country. It's all ok! But anyone who presents themselves as international and modern and, above all, in the upper price segment must have something really good about them!So here's a clear deduction!!For example, after new drinks we had to “wave” with full body language.The store could be humming and generate real sales if that worked. Unfortunately it doesn't currently. :(Point deduction!All the waitresses are very nice and good to look at too. But they really still have a lot to learn! The bartender is a bit more ambitious, you get the feeling.Nevertheless, drinks are forgotten and food is served too slowly.The burgers we had were amazing!!!The ambience is great!This is the salvation for the scoring. Otherwise it would really only be one star.

By the sea what can I say.. by far the best restaurant on the island. Other than seafood. ☺️ we have the fillet minion with crushed roasted potato and. Greek salad the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was thoroughly enjoyed down to the last bite. I would highly recommend you come and enjoy the beautiful location and the atmosphere made through the decor the waiting staff whole speak Very good English are very attentive and of course the food.

Hotel with great location its literally 10m from lovely beach with places to sit and chill. Pool is in garden also nice and hotel has its own minimarket opened till 22:00

We stopped at the café by the sea to take a juice, avoid the place.......I ordered a Mango juice, they served me a Bad quality industrial Mango juice and they charged for it 80 THB. Just unnatural for Thaïland

Location, environment and service are good. Food was a bit disappointing. Dinner roll were a little over fermented. Seafood paste was dry and no sauce. Crabmeat burger was more doughy paddy than crab meat cake. The sauce has too much wasabi on it. Over priced!

Disappointed with the food quality after two meals at By The Sea. For the first meal we had pamelo salad (4/5), mushroom pasta (4/5), and the fish soup (2/5 - very bland, cold). Decided to give it another try last night on the island. We waited over an hour for a pork 'curry' (1/5 - pretty much a bowl of pulled pork) and a burger (2/5 - almost too salty to consume). Apparently Mondays are slow because the chef isn't working - which isn't really the customers problem. The server was doing his best to manage the delays - which was appreciated. On a price vs. value basis - these were the least impressive meals after two weeks on the island.
