In 2023, I returned to Seoul for the second time, choosing to stay in Myeongdong again because of the wonderful experience I had back in 2015 at Central Economy Myeongdong. Sadly, that place was no longer available. During my previous stay, the friendly receptionist from Hong Kong spoke fluent English and provided exceptional service, which is a rarity in South Korea. We enjoyed a free breakfast every morning until 10 AM and had access to self-service laundry facilities.This time, I traveled with my parents, and due to the high season, we had to stay in separate accommodations. My parents opted for Philstay Myeongdong, but I was shocked by the service given the significantly higher price. There was no breakfast, no free laundry, and I wasn’t even allowed to visit them just to pick them up. My parents struggle with English and can’t read Hangul, so I wanted to help them navigate the city.However, every time I went to pick them up, we felt rushed to leave, despite not using any facilities at the hostel or even asking for water. On the bright side, the owner and receptionist were fluent in English, which made communication much easier. Overall, while the location was convenient, the lack of hospitality was disappointing compared to my previous stay

It was helpful that some of the reception staff could speak Japanese. The single room was just for sleeping and taking a shower, but that was all I was looking for so it was OK. Towels are changed once every two days. The location in the middle of Myeong-dong was extremely convenient.

For the price it's not worth, you could've just booked an airbnb.Cons1. Booked for 4 nights but was only allowed 1 washing otherwise there's extra charge2. The towel they provide is only a hand towel (check photo)3. Small room, the windows can't be opened.4. Price, the price is not worth what you paid for the small room.Pros1. Location perhaps, close to the big olive young storeOverall I wouldn't recommend, just book an airbnb near any translation line 4 or line 2. You'll be fine. (Did that for other nights it was worth it)

Rooms are tiny but that was expected, they give you all the amenities which is a nice touch and the location is 10/10, maybe the bed could be a little softer! Overall I had a good stay in Myeongdong, the service was excellent

Overview.This place is a little gem, it's one of those places where as a backpacker if you want a quiet stay somewhere with all the basic amenities for a really cheap price, it's hard to beat.Location.It is slightly hard to find where the hotel is and how to get in however I've taken a picture of the street, building and entrance to Philstay. Take the elevator up to level 5.Extra.Word of caution, if you're planning to get rowdy or like partying late at night, this hotel stay is not for you as they have a noise rule at 11pm. It's designed for single travellers looking for a cheap easy stay.
