The hotel is very old but it feels very old style but that is good for a onsan hotel. The room is big for our family of 3 adults and the inroom onsan is excellent. It also offers multiple public and private onsan, which is great. I tried all of them during my stay.

Amazing service and onsen facilities. There are both indoor and outdoor, private and public baths to choose from. There are unlimited drinks from the drinks machines and also other complementary food services. …

We had a wonderful time at kikuya ryokan. We had a room with private onsen, the hotel also offers public indoor and outdoor onsen, which we enjoyed during our stay as well. Nothing can be more relaxing than sitting in the outdoor onsen, and listening to the rustling sound of the leaves and burbling sound of stream which runs across the hotel.Breakfast and dinner were artfully presented and delicious, and the staff were very polite.

Very old and historical ryokan, but the room, toilet, carpet was dirty. All 3 open-air baths were so good.👍The breakfast was tasty, and they gave lots of snacks. However, the information about the snacks is lacking. If you don't know, you will miss. I didn't realize what they have on the 1st day and missed all. Luckily, I was staying 2 nights and could enjoy them the next day. Either you ask the staff what it is available or look around yourself. The place is big like maze, and I felt as if I was doing a treasure hunt. It's kind of fun, though.Below are the snacks you can get.1. Onsen milk - regular or coffee flavor in the morning2. Welcome snacks, candy, and chocolate at the snack bar 1-6 pm3. Yakurut in the afternoon, where the milk was displayed4. Oden - Japanese fish cake for 6-6:30 pm (not my cup of tea)5. Soba for 10-10:30 pm?6. Ice cream next to the public baths (B1) anytime7. Coffee & tea anytimeUnfortunately, all the highball wasn't available during my stays.

We had such an amazing stay here and it was worth every penny (which was actually very affordable compared to similar ryokans with private onsens!)I chose this in particular for the room with a private onsen and access to outdoor private onsens as a tattooed person and it was amazing. Every though it was a Friday night and busy there was always an opportunity to use one of the outdoor private onsens. The free beverages and ice blocks were awesome, and of course the 10pm ramen was the best. Really enjoyed all the meals and the ambience and have already recommended to family and friends!

Located near the downstream of the Katsura River, the hotel straddled both sides of the river. It is a historical building built nearly a hundred years ago with several phases of expansion. …

Very old style but smart design Japanese building across the river. Room is not too big but with a private onsen inside. Dinner is great and I like the arrangement of western breakfast very much. There are ramen available at night and private onsen is not difficult to get. Staffs are very friendly and some with good English speaking abilities. Location is great as it is just opposite to the bus station. An excellent choice in this area.

We stayed in a room with a private bath on a balcony overlooking the river, and it could not have been better. This part of the hotel was recently built, and the room had a bedroom, living room a shower entrance to the balcony. …

Our two-night stay at Kikuya Ryokan in Shuzenji Onsen was an unforgettable experience, leaving us completely enamored with the charm of traditional Japanese hospitality. Opting for the Japanese Style Room with Anteroom, we were immersed in the essence of Japanese culture from the moment we arrived. We were thoroughly impressed by the quality of our stay, particularly the baths and the culinary delights served. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were exquisite culinary journeys, showcasing the freshest ingredients and meticulous preparation. We also appreciated it when the staff made some last minute changes to our meal plan to accommodate my daughter. A delightful surprise was the complimentary access to a variety of beverages including beer, coffee, milk, tea, and even popsicles, adding an extra touch of indulgence to our stay.Despite the ryokan being fully booked, it never felt crowded, and were able to enjoy all the baths, both private and public, at our leisure. The location, conveniently situated in front of the bus station, provided easy access to nearby attractions such as the Niji no Sato, and Plum Blossom Parks. Exploring the village was a pleasure, with a scenic stroll along the river and opportunities to visit charming shops and restaurants.
