A 3 star hotel. Pros: Breakfast staff was lovely, location is very good - easy walk from train station, but dark at night as limited street lights - and the woman at reception is a great welcome/guide (though she’s not always there).Cons: the other staff are largely unhelpful. The worst part is that they NEVER answer the phone either before, during or after your stay. Forget about email replies too. Still waiting. There’s an emergency manager number at the front desk which may as well be direct to Santa Claus as it’s never picked up. If you find that you ever need anything from someone or are in need of help, this is not a place I would recommend.

Lovely little and comfortable hotel not far from the Takayama station. You can have a true Japanese experience here because the hotel is just like a typical house. You are requested to take off your shoes at the main entrance and put them in a locker. The room was very clean and warm, . The friendly staff speaks English. We also had breakfast and really enjoyed it.

It’s not a Ryokan nor a hotel. It’s a 2*star guesthouse or hostel at best. The website is misleading. The room we got was not modern, one side facing the yard where all the guests pass by and can look in. The shower is together with toilet. Basin in the room. No shelves. Tiny cupboard. Breakfast is western. Japanese breakfast in website did not exist. Reception open part time with cold and disinterested non-Japanese staff. Were charged Y1,000 per day for parking. Asked for invoice and one was not given. This place is way overpriced for what you get. Would not come back. Not recommended.Update: the hotel did not refund the Y1,000 for the day we didn’t park. They wrote I have to go back to the hotel with my credit card. Yes, I should drive from Tokyo back to Takayama for a Y1,000. What amazing service. So, no receipt and no refund.

The good: very friendly and helpful staff, great location. Breakfast was swift and good, one day we had western the other Japanese - vegetarian option which we were happy with. The not so good: general feel for quality/finish was lower end. Eg the shower/toilet is a plastic built in style which feels a bit cheap and cramped but is perfectly serviceable. Hot water wasn’t really hot enough but was ok, thin/cheap toilet paper. The bad: I tried calling on multiple occasions before we arrived (within working local hours) and the phone was never answered. It also took several days to respond to my message sent via email. We were also told to use the phone on the reception to contact staff out of hours. We tried this at around 0830 and this phone was also unanswered.

There was cotton dust on the quilt and pillows on the bed. It was not as clean as a freshly washed bed. There was also dust on the bedside table. The bathroom was very clean. The service staff are very nice and can speak Chinese; the public area is clean and bright; I had a Japanese breakfast one day, which was delicious. The beanbags in the public area are very comfortable, although the covers look a bit dirty. You need to make a reservation for the hot spring. The water is not hot enough, so you can only soak once.

Horrible hotel. Cold and indifferent reception. Nothing like what is presented. It is a hostel pretending to be a ryokan. It's not a ryokan and not a hotel. …

Fake “Japanese” style guesthouse not hotel. The website is deceiving. The name says modern. It is not. The website states it’s a Ryokan. It is not. In fact it’s a rather cheap, mediocre and overpriced guesthouse. …

Fabulous traditional-style hotel with modern amenities. We loved the breakfast, and the on-site private onsen (bookings for 30 minute slots) and garden were fabulous. …

Nice place, everything runs well. Outdoor onsen great. I think this place pitches itself at the premium end in terms or price - but in my opinion, it’s a middle of the road hotel in terms of finishes and location. But don’t let my opinion put you off. It’s a perfectly serviceable and comfortable hotel. And as for the shoe changes..I just went barefoot inside ;)

The other side of the train tracks to the main town. It is a great base to have in Takayama. The onsen is fantastic, and you book 30 min slots. Breakfast is great and throughout the day there are free drinks available.
