“I checked in late in the evening around 7 PM, but there was no staff, only self check-in instructions. The door requires a passcode to open, which is inconvenient every time I go in. All the rooms are dormitories with 6-8 beds, and they are not cool, making it very hot in the cubicles, especially during summer.”

I'm really not sure why this place got such high reviews. The staff were rude and non existent during the whole stay . It's super cramped and inconvenient with the showers located down the stairs and has a very cold, unwelcoming atmosphere with a weird sewage smell. I had to alter the dates of my stay weeks before and they were very inflexible and wouldn't let me change them. I wouldn't stay here again

The hostel is lovely, the bunks are spacious and private, and the staff were pleasant. It was close to major attractions and within walking distance to the station. I had a comfortable stay overall.I’d like to give a higher review, but I have mixed feelings because of the showers. They were uncharacteristically filthy. It was odd because the rest of the hostel was quite clean (aside some from black mold on the windows in my dorm room). There was also nowhere to put your stuff (not even any hooks on the wall), so you’d have to put your towel and belongings on the ground.I think its good value overall, but it wont be a luxurious stay by any means.

Specifically regarding the,"Guesthouse", It's a very good set up, for a hostel. We got the 6 person bunk bed room and it was nice. Stairs to the second floor are a bit narrow, so not so great if you have large suitcases.Dining / communal area very pleasant and has all the amenities you possibly need (fridge, microwave, electric stove etc.).Would strongly recommend for younger active short term travellers because it is possibly the cheapest lodging in Takayama.Note: no parking at the Guesthouse. Public parking available nearby.

The place is a little bit too far from Takayama st. (10 min walk) but the host is super nice and friendly and his English is very good. We brought the big luggages with us and he helped us with the taxi. The place is the traditional Japanese style. We stayed in the 1F family room, the smell is slightly musty but it was neat and clean.

The second time I have been back to this place. The guesthouse is well-decorated with cozy-modern atmosphere. The rooms are comfy and clean. The bathroom is shared but also super clean. The host is very nice, helpful, and fluent in English. Location is also somewhat city-center, it takes only 15-20 minutes walk to the Takayama old town and the restaurants area.

A charming little hostel that offers extremely clean lodgings. Options include mixed dorm in pigeonhole capsules (with blinds) and traditional Japanese style rooms. Newly built, the hostel is fresh. Bedding is comfortable. Location central. Staff are very attentive and have great local knowledge. I found they were more knowledgeable than the actual Information Centre in town! Staff are well versed in English and are down to earth. This hostel felt like a home away from home which made my stay here feel authentically Japanese. Thank you for accommodating my stay here comfortably.

Our first hostel experience was a great one. Very spacious, very comfy. The showers and toilets were all private. Had luggage storage downstairs and under the beds. Includes a lock box, house shoes, you can borrow umbrellas. The owners speak good English and are very helpful with local attractions. We met so many lovely people here. I highly recommend!
