We stayed here by accident. We originally booked a different Ryokan and the booking agent made an error and relocated us here. The mistake was a blessing as this establishment was the perfect rest between our travel from Fujikawaguchiko to Takayama. The service here was very special. Some small touches made a huge difference. For example: when I went to the outdoor onsen, one of the staff turned my slippers around so I didn’t have to do it myself when I came out. My wife said the outdoor hot spring had a magical effect on her body. Her skin felt better and it had some aphrodisiac effects. This is a small ryokan so it feels very private and relaxing. The meals here were also very enjoyable, especially the breakfast. Some of the staff did not speak English but everyone did their best to be extremely hospitable and the entire staff accompanied us to our car and to say goodbye while it was raining on our exit. If I had to make a suggestion, I would suggest to lower the quality of the Hida beef from A5 for the clay grill as it is quite rich and doesn’t quite match the finesse of the meal.

Best ryokan experience I've had in Japan. It's a smaller establishment, so service feels very personalised. Reserved the private onsen which is perfect for a couple, and it's a lovely wooden bath in a very beautiful garden. The open air public bath is also exquisite and it's very worth a try. The dinner was outstanding, by far the best quality and variety of flavours out of all the other kaiseki meals I've had. Staff don't speak a lot of English, but it was enough to communicate and explain things without issue. Room was very spacious and had a little nook with a rocking chair, and futons are very fluffy and comfortable. The only nitpick I have was the pillow is a buckwheat pillow and was quite hard and a bit uncomfortable since I wasn't used to them, but didn't affect sleep in the end. Definitely planning to visit again next trip.

This is a cosy boutique onsen hotel which pays attention to details. The view from our window was nice. We had our own private dinning room for dinner and breakfast. The food was good. …

Small Ryokan - only 16 rooms - near the river in Gero. It’s not as grand as some of the other places in the area, but it’s clean, the staff are super friendly (they even speak a bit of English if you get stuck), and both the indoor and outdoor baths are great for relaxing - my tip is to wait until after 9 (the baths are open 24/7), as you’ll most likely have the bath to yourself. You can also book a 40 minute slot in the private bath. Dinner (small portions but about 10 courses), includes the local speciality Hida beef, along with sashimi and tempura. This is one of the places where you get your own private dining room as opposed to being served in your room or at a restaurant. Our room was 3man something yen each, which is actually pretty cheap for this kind of place. Write to your family on one of the complimentary postcards, or read The Teachings Of Buddha, which you’ll find on a shelf, or simply open a window and chill out to the sounds of nature..!One complaint though, was that our room had no view and the window simply looked out over a courtyard into someone else’s room. Bit of a design flaw! But it didn’t really spoil anything. All in all we had a great experience chilling and relaxing before returning to work. Definitely recommended.
