The hotel facilities are full of Showa era feel and feel like a sanatorium. Looking at the reviews, I saw some bad reviews, so I was worried, but I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath. The bath in the room was a hot spring, so I just took a bath in the room without going to the public bath. A ceramic bath with free flowing water from the source. There is also a washing area which is convenient. The food was seasonal and very delicious. I chose Ashigara beef from a plan that allows you to choose a main dish. The meat was tender and delicious. It was nice to have a shuttle service from Miyanoshita Station. What I would like to see improved is the toilet in the room. There is a toilet mat, but I don't think it's necessary as it gives off a feeling of being lived in. Also, the smell of the air freshener is strong. I would like to change it to an aroma or natural scent.

[This is a review of a room with a semi-open-air bath]I use it about once a year.Since it is KKR, if you are a member of the National Public Employees Mutual Aid Association, you can get a discount of 3,000 yen per person on the general price, and depending on the season, you can also use a 2,000 yen discount coupon per person and a 1,000 yen discount coupon limited to children, so this time we will take 2 adults and an infant. I stayed alone, and I was able to get a discount of 16,000 yen from the regular price, and I was able to stay in a room with a semi-open-air bath and a plan that included boiled golden sea bream and Ashigara beef steak for just 42,000 yen. I think this is an exceptional price in Miyanoshita, and if you are a national civil servant, you have no choice but to stay here.As mentioned in other reviews, the facility is quite old, but unlike the other rooms, the rooms with semi-open-air baths have been renovated and are very clean. If you are staying at this facility, you should only stay in a room with a semi-open-air bath. There are only 3 rooms available, but if you are in the early stages of booking, you can easily get one, so be sure to get a room with a semi-open-air bath. For meals, we recommend the plan that comes with boiled golden sea bream. However, the amount is very large, so be careful. All the dishes taste delicious. In other reviews, there are people like Yuzan Kaihara who gave harsh 1-star reviews saying things like "It's embarrassing not to know things", but if you look at his other reviews, he gives 1-star reviews to most of them. There's no need to worry about it, it's delicious. The same reviewer said that it was made by a foreigner, but this facility is unusual these days because everyone, including the front desk and back staff, was Japanese, and there were no foreigners. In any case, what's the problem even if there are foreigners on staff? Maybe Yuzan Kaihara from the early days really reviewed it.All of the staff seemed to be kind and courteous.Although they may not be as sophisticated as a major hotel, I could really feel their desire to provide hospitality to the best of their ability.Anyway, this is a room with a semi-open-air bath.By choosing this room, you will be able to avoid the oldness of the facility, so it is recommended.

The open-air bath, food, and mahjong were amazing. The road to the parking lot is narrow and steep.I think it would be difficult for a weak car that doesn't have the ability to climb hills.

Revisited after 50 years. The approach is a steep slope that makes it difficult to pass each other. There are several spaces for passing each other, so even if you run into an oncoming truck, you can get away with it by backing up a few meters in a cold sweat. The inside has been properly renovated. Please note that the elevator only goes up to the 3rd floor and there are stairs to get to the 4th floor. There is a small indoor bath and an open-air bath that requires a short walk along the riverside path from the entrance. The open-air bath was occupied by three people and there was no washing area. It feels so good to be floating in the forest. The number of people using the bath can be determined by the number of sandals dedicated to the open-air bath at the entrance. It's analog but reasonable. Please note that the food and atmosphere inside the hotel are KKR. For this price in Hakone, don't complain.

This time I came to see fireflies. It depends on the weather, so I was finally able to see it for the third time.

I used it in late May.Although the inn is quite old, it is well-maintained, and the toiletries include toothbrushes, a water pot with ice in the refrigerator, and other thoughtful things. This is an inn that will take care of you. There is no musty smell as mentioned in some other comments. Maybe it depends on the season. The employees are probably retired civil servants, and their customer service is sloppy and their manners are bad, but since this is a resort run by the National Public Service Employees Mutual Aid Association, I think we should take it as a ``taste'' and enjoy it to the fullest. Don't expect the hospitality of a first-class inn. If that's what you're looking for, we recommend staying elsewhere. There are two types of hot springs: an indoor bath and a separate open-air bath. The separate open-air bath is near a stream, and even though it was late May, we could see fireflies. It seems that the main season is in early June, but it is quite picturesque. The food was so delicious that even the children, who usually eat late and don't eat much, ate it all. Perhaps due to the employment of retired civil servants, we rarely have any foreign employees in recent years. It felt very fresh.Check-out is also smooth, as you can settle your bill after dinner. The only drawback is that the uphill road to the hotel is extremely steep and narrow. It's a hill that makes you worry that you might not be able to climb it with the power of a light car. It can be scary in winter when it freezes, so in that case it might be better to come by train instead of by car.Overall, some people may have their own preferences, but if you don't want excessive entertainment from employees, I think you should avoid it.On the other hand, I think this is the best inn for people who find such things bothersome.

I stayed here before the coronavirus pandemic. It's so bad that I'm posting this even though it's a little late. The room was old, damp and had a terrible smell. The Febreze provided is also empty. Immediately, I had it refilled and sprayed it all over the room to create some confusion. The area around the handle of the white sliding door was discolored from hand dirt.I felt that the cleaning was done well, but there were some old and dirty things that could not be fixed by cleaning alone. The last time I stayed there, it wasn't this bad...I guess I was unlucky enough to be assigned the worst room...Also, when I asked the front desk staff how to get to the open-air bath, I got a momentary look of shock, so I had a bad feeling, but as expected, I was right. The path leading to the open-air bath has branches that are slanted, growing and falling as much as they want, giving the impression that it has not been maintained at all, making it a real test of courage. The bathtub and floor were completely covered with rotten leaves, so I ended up going back to my room without getting in. It was not dirty beyond the taste. The food was very delicious, but I will never go there again.

I received a lodging ticket to celebrate my mother's retirement, so I'm staying here.A shuttle service is available from Miyanoshita Station before check-in, and a shuttle service is also available upon check-out (reservation required). According to my mother, there was no information at the time of reservation about whether or not there would be a check-in shuttle, but she was informed when she happened to inquire about something else. (If it weren't for coincidence, the location would be quite crowded.)The person at the front desk is an older man with a bad attitude. Is this the kind of customer service where you try to make fun of customers who are troublesome due to their ignorance? My mother also seemed to feel like she was being made a fool of. (I wonder if he's the one who went to heaven?)When I tried to make a transfer reservation for the next day with the same person, I told him where I wanted to go, but the pick-up time was too early and I almost made a transfer reservation at a time when the desired facility was not open.Another staff member noticed this and resuggested a more suitable time, and by chance we were able to escape.I get the impression that it probably depends on the staff. I thought the other staff members were honest and had good customer service. The room was a plan without an indoor bath, and it had the feel of a guesthouse where I stayed during my junior high school outdoor activities. People with a tendency to cleanliness or those who are nervous should avoid going to the hot springs. It looks like it has been cleaned, but there are some stains and dirt due to aging. It may be reasonable considering the location of Hakone. The dinner was delicious considering the price, and the person who served the food was nice, so I gave it 2 stars. Why are the reviews so high on reservation sites? I had my doubts, but I think people who can tell that it's a sanatorium will probably enjoy it. People who come expecting it to be a typical hot spring inn are likely to be disappointed.
