Written on August 13, 2024.We sincerely hope that it will be revived as soon as possible. We would like to express our deepest sympathies regarding this fire.I understand that it will be difficult to deal with the aftermath, but I pray that it will be rebuilt as soon as possible.8 years ago, on my first trip with my wife, we stayed at a ryokan for the first time. After consulting various plans with a travel agency, we decided on an accommodation...To be honest, it's not long before the scheduled stay date, so why is there such a nice place on the short list? I still remember that feeling.Maybe it just happened to be right after another cancellation? An open-air bath along the river that can be reserved for an hour, as well as luxurious meals featuring pheasant. There were many kinds of food and it was very delicious, but I am still sorry that I left a little bit of it because I was full.I also ate pheasant for the first time, and it was delicious without any smell!Since then, there have been many foreigners. At the time, I was surprised to see Mr. Nakai conversing with a foreigner in English at the front desk.Is this inn famous in foreign countries? After this, I stayed at various inns and hotels. This is the inn I have the most fond memories of.This is also why I was blessed with a daughter...two of us (lol)

So sad that they burned down. Was a highlight of my trip last year. Enjoyed soaking in the outdoor bath while surrounded by serene nature. Excellent hospitality and the meals provided were so something special.

We had a wonderful 2 night stay in this lovely ryokan. All the staff were so helpful and courteous. The service provided was amazing. Our kaiseki dinner each night was served in the dining area of our room. …

Lovely ryokan onsen. The accommodations are traditional; it appeared that they were in the process of updating some while we were there. The futons were very comfortable and the sitting area looking outside was lovely. The rooms have a TV and phone; we used neither. The grounds are breath taking; especially with the cherry blossoms blooming. The onsets are amazing; we especially loved the outdoor onsen with the noise of the adjacent creek. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were huge; immaculately set up and delicious. Make sure you have a good appetite. We only stayed one night, and it was a perfect stop after several days in Tokyo. Service was also top notch and friendly.

Classic Japan experience in a traditional Riokan. We stayed here for one night. Unfortunately, the furniture in the room itself was a bit worn out. A riokan also works with newer furniture in the same style. Unfortunately for Riokan newbies, there wasn't enough explanation. For example, we were not aware that the sleeping area was prepared during dinner. The dinner itself was of very high quality and the service was extremely friendly. The outdoor onsen is really nice and can be booked privately once per stay. Unfortunately, the reservation is not visible to others at the entrance. While we were there someone disturbed us. The hotel is right next to a bus stop. Do you need to know...

Best Ryokan in Hakone

This is a wonderful Ryokan in Hakone and one that I would highly recommend if you're looking to get that experience in Japan.-Price is comparable to other offerings in the area (30,000 jpy per person per night as of review time). Note it seems steep but the price includes a huge hotel room (the size of a suite, eg, at a western hotel), use of yukata for going around the property, kaiseki dinner and breakfast, as well as a private onsen. Only 18 guest rooms, so book well in advance.-It is far from the town center, but worth it. Access from Hakone-Yumoto is either through ryokan shuttle bus (~100 jpy, least frequent) city bus (~270 jpy, more frequent) or taxi (~1100 jpy, may be your only option if you miss the bus)-Service is second to none. Staff were waiting outside to welcome us when our taxi arrived. Everyone speaks decent English.-NOTE you can also reserve a PRIVATE (30-min) session in the outdoor bath for those staying in your room. HOWEVER the staff member did not inform us of this upon check in! We had read about it on google reviews (and it is listed on their website/booking websites I believe) so make sure to ask about it when you are being introduced.--The decor of the hotel is very traditional, but is obviously getting a bit dated at places - ie, stains/scratches on the walls, musty smells, etc. We could see some renovations being done as we moved about the property, so it seems like the management is working on it. However, some of the showa era design choices did seem quite contrasting. For instance, our washroom seemed to be updated with nice wood panelling and a clearly modern toilet. However, the shower/bath in the room, while large, was very clearly dated with tiling and colour choices which may have been at the peak of luxury in the 1980s. While we did not use the room's shower/bath (why would we, being at an onsen), it did affect the overall image of the place.--The dinner is an exquisite multi-course meal of local cuisine. Given that the "kiji" in "kijitei" means "pheasant", a lot of the dishes incorporated it; very unique as pheasant is not exactly a common dish. The exact meal contents vary based on the chef and what's in season. The waitress we had (a wonderful Vietnamese girl named Min) spoke both Japanese and English and explained every course as well as how to enjoy it. You can also order beer and sake (and wine, but why would you). The dining room is shared but dinner times are staggered so it can feel very private. Breakfast is a similar multi-course affair.--The public (indoor) baths are very spacious relative to the number of guests. I was the only one there 2/3 times I went. There is a great view of the outside for you to enjoy while soaking. Remember you DO need to be naked in both indoor and outdoor baths.--The outdoor bath is a little hotter compared to the indoor bath so it may need getting used to. There is no shower near the outdoor baths, so to use them, you must first shower in the indoor bath, get dressed, and then walk out to the outdoor baths. The walk takes you through the property's garden which is beautiful both at night and during the day, there are signs as well as lanterns for you to use at night. Being in the outdoor bath while listening to the sounds of crickets and the nearby river is seriously magical. I highly recommend waking up early in the morning so you have time for a second soak before breakfast (and a third soak afterwards, if you're speedy).--Overall our one-night stay at Kijitei was near perfect and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a ryokan in Hakone. My advice to the management would be to keep doing what they are doing, but add a little bit of focus on modernization. Thank you Kijitei for a wonderful stay and amazing memories!Tips:-Book as early as you can.-Research onsen etiquette.-Wear your (complimentary) yukata while moving about the property.-Come with an open mind, culinary-wise. You may be surprised!

A medium-sized inn in Hakone. It is difficult to walk from Oku-Yumoto and Hakone-Yumoto stations. That's why it's quiet.Although the building is old, it is clean. The hot springs are colorless and transparent with a smooth feeling. An open-air hot spring bath where you can almost touch the river. The river is right in front of you. Kaiseki cuisine focuses on pheasant, not duck. Its age is undeniable.

Beautiful Ryokan. It was my first experience in a traditional japanese inn and it didn’t disappoint. It is located very far away from tourism activities however the view and size pays off.My room was very spacious, temperature throughout the hotel was great (even while we visited during the cold winter) and the staff was next level sweet and helpful. You are also provided with your own Yukata, so those who enjoy dressing up for the ocassion don’t have to come prepared, KH has got you covered. If you don’t like Pheasant, reconsider your options as you will be eating a lot of it. Food menu is set and you can’t order a la carte, and pheasant is in almost every dish, from entrees, to main dishes and even dessert. I personally enjoyed most of it, even those flavors us in Mexico are definitely unfamiliar with, but I know some people could find that off putting.Onsen, perfect. Loved it.My only negative review for my experience with KH is the stay was advertise with in-room dining, which we didn’t get. But I am not sure if that was a mistake by our travel agency or the ryokan itself. Make sure to ask your agent when booking.I recommend!
