Beautiful large home in the quiet town of Kameoka. Very nicely decorated in Japanese style. The owner speaks good English, made us a delicious breakfast, made reservations for super good and nice restaurants, brought and picked us up to those restaurants and the station (because the location is difficult to reach by public transport), gave tips for activities in the area and told a lot about Japan and Japanese culture. A perfect stay with perfect service. The house is located near Kyoto and yet quiet. We did the 7 temple walk and didn't meet anyone at all, while the temples are on par with the temples in Kyoto. Arashiyama is only 15 minutes by train, also nice to go there with the Romantic Railway or by boat across the river. Kyoto Station 30 minutes by train away.

Our visit to Bishamon House was definitely one of the higlights of our first time in Japan. We stayed for two nights but could've stayed longer. The countryside was a moment of calmness compared to the big cities (Tokio, Kioto). We loved the atmosphere of Kameoka: the quiet streets, the woods nearby and the guest house itself was like in a movie. The host family was wonderful and gave good tips and drove us around different places. For example we took the old Torokko train from Kameoka to Arashiyama Bamboo forest. Perhaps the most memorable dinner we had during two weeks was in Kameoka: the host took us to a traditional Japanese multicourse menu in a local small restaurant. The food there was interesting, delicious and cheap - try it with and open mind (plus the owner of the restaurant was super friendly along with the local customers). Go to Bishamon House - it now has a special place in our hearts!

We spent fantastically beautiful days at Bishamon House. A beautiful old house with all the necessary modern equipment. We slept in the Japanese room with tatami mats and on futons, thanks for that finally my back pain was gone afterwards. We had of course booked breakfast and two dinners, one time there was wonderful Nabe and the next evening Okonomiyake to eat instead. Everything tasted great.Just behind the house is a small Shinto shrine with Tori, there I was every morning and listened to the birds. Thanks to Christian we had two very nice excursions. Once to the village of Miyama with thatched houses. Then Christian drove us to Yoshimine-dera, incredibly beautiful and quiet temple complex, especially soothing after tourist crowds in Kyoto. In addition, we could in the nearby glass studio Calore two beautiful drinking glasses of course with much help from the master, otherwise I would not have dared of course. On top of that, we made our own chopsticks at the Nagaoka Meichiku Bamboo Workshop.Although our stay was quite full of experiences, we were able to relax wonderfully thanks to Christian's care and the tranquility of the house.Ofuro was a relief after the excursions.Thank you very much for everything!!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Bishamon House in early January for two days and two nights and we had a phenomenal experience. Christian and his wife Tsuzumi were amazing hosts! Christian did a great job in recommending a local sushi restaurant for dinner on our first night. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was just as welcoming and friendly as the Bishamon House. The accommodations at the house were authentic, cozy, and just what we were looking for.Christian made us breakfast each morning (which we now scramble our eggs the Christian way since we loved them so much), and he gave us a great recommendation on walking in the area to visit the seven shrines and temples. It was a great way to take in the beautiful countryside, and there was an excellent soba restaurant near one of the shrines. Later that evening, we decided to do the Soba noodle class and we cannot recommend that enough! Sensei was a very good teacher and was very patient with us in making soba noodles. Christian was also there throughout the experience to translate for us. Once we made the noodles, sensei cooked all of our dishes and it was excellent. We now try to make "Japanese Pickles" at home from that experience.Bishamon house was an amazing experience and I hope more people get to experience this hidden gem.

Hospitable! I can definitely recommend Bishamon House! We stayed at Bishamon House with our family (my wife and I, one child, and three grandparents). I contacted them before we made a reservation and introduced us to recommended sightseeing, activities, restaurants, etc.. In some cases, they even helped us to make a reservation.I would like to express my gratitude to the Christian for driving all during my stay. We enjoyed the experiences around Kameoka, such as the Hozu river cruise, Miyama village trip, and delicious Kyoto cuisine.A special mention must be made of our hosts' hospitality, Christian and his wife Tsuzumi, and their two children. Christian handled all transportation and meal preparations perfectly. He and his wife, Mrs. Tsuzumi, gave us the most excellent hospitality. Furthermore, their two children played very well with my three-year-old daughter. My daughter lives in an urban area. It was a valuable experience for my daughter to play in the sand and run around in nature. She would not normally do it by herself.Even though we were only there for four days and three nights, our family and the Christian family became as good friends as we have been for many years. We will definitely visit again and share our time with you.

Bishamon House is a wonderful, relaxing way to experience authentic Japan away from the crowds of tourists in the city. It’s a quick train ride from Kyoto, about 20 min. Their property is beautiful, overlooking the city of Kameoka. Their are beautiful, peaceful shrines all walking distance from their house, one is basically in their backyard! The neighbors, restauraunt owners, and bartenders throughout the town are welcoming and thrilled to have you. Tsuzimi and Christian help make reservations and plan your stay in Kameoka, making it fun filled and stress free. We really enjoyed having locals to talk about Japanese culture in a comfortable, unique setting. Tsuzimi is a great cook and we had a blast eating with their family. One of the highlights of our trip! Couldn’t recommend this more!
