We had an amazing four night stay here at Hotel GOCO. This is a family owned hotel and the owners are very kind. They speak excellent English and arranged our luggage transport. They are always ready to help us. The rooms are clean and more spacious than the hotel that we stayed in Shinjuku. Washing machine available in the room. The location is incredible as it is one block away from Nishiki market (Kyotos kitchen) and the shopping arcades. Pontocho alley is also very close by for night time izakaya. I walked in the shopping arcades every evening! It is also close to Keihan line and a major bus stop that allows access to the rest of the city. Reception is available 8am to 10pm. The receptionist always warmly greets us when we come back to the hotel.

I stayed in a twin room that cost 200,000 won per night, and I had to sleep with earplugs at night because of the low noise blaring 24 hours a day. It sounded like some kind of plumbing or a machine sound, but when I told the staff, they just said that no one had ever said that and that they thought I was sensitive to sounds. The sound didn't just happen at night, it kept happening, so I looked for the place where the sound was coming from during the day and found it was coming from where the refrigerator was plugged in. It was very difficult not to use the refrigerator because it was summer. The hotel said it was my personal problem, but having trouble sleeping due to the sound of the refrigerator running was something I had never experienced in any other hotel.Even with the windows closed, you can hear cars passing on the road and people talking in the second floor room. Even though most hotels are located on the roadside, it is natural to close the windows to block noise, but the hotel simply said that since it is located in an alley, this level of noise should be taken into account. If it had been built in 2020, it seems like better soundproofing facilities would have been possible...In the bathroom, when you lower the temperature, the water pressure drops drastically and the water comes out gurgling, and at medium temperature, an ear-piercing noise is made, so I had no choice but to hastily wash with boiling water. I understood that they couldn't call a contractor because it was the weekend, but I was surprised that this problem wasn't managed in advance. There was dust on the glass bucket and cup, but I had detergent and a sponge so I washed them and used them. However, while I was checking the noise of the refrigerator, I happened to look at the lower shelf where pots and other things are stored, and there was old dust piled up there. When I started the washing machine on the first day, it came out with a lot of tangled lint that wasn't mine. It looked decent on the outside, but there seemed to be hygienic problems everywhere. In terms of service, most people were friendly, but the young male staff member sitting at the front desk was very unpleasant as he didn't say hello to us when we left or when we came in. It was my first time in a hotel where the staff just sat silently right in front of me, as if there were no people around.I also made a reservation based on Google ratings, but after staying there, I feel like I want to break my fingers for booking this place. None of the facilities, hygiene, or service were satisfactory. The location is good, but there are plenty of hotels nearby, so I recommend considering other options.

By far the best accomodation I had the pleasure staying at during my Japan trip. The room was clean and had it's own washing machine. As a solo traveler, I found it to be spacious. The Hotel is located in the heart of Kyoto, right next to Nishiki market and about a 15 minute walk away from Higashiyama and Gion districts. Additionally, bus stops and metro stations taking you just about anywhere in and around Kyoto are located about 5 minutes away. However, the biggest reason the stay was so comfortable was the staff. Everyone working there was extremely friendly and was able to communicate on a high level of english. Whenever I needed recommendations, whoever was working on that day took some time and provided me with different options. I even got a reservation at a Fugu restaurant on short notice. They also helped me to contact the bus company after I lost my umbrella.I wanted to thank everyone again working at Hotel GOCO and will make sure to stay at Hotel GOCO again the next time I am in Kyoto.

We loved the hotel. It was very comfortable. We stayed in a very large room with terrace. The staff and the owners are very kind and helpful. It was in the heart of center near to fish market and shopping area. We were in thr middle of the festival and parade. If we come to Kyoto we can stay at the same hotel. Thank you.
