Rooms are modest but clean and complete with necessary amenities. Service is superb. Host Sakada san is amiable in every way, from holding our luggage prior/after our stay, to clean the room to help hailing taxi... Just a pleasant all around guy. And he makes excellent breakfasts (part of the stay) during our 4 nights stay. His English is very good making it easy and pleasant.Location is unbeatable. On the same block as the Yasuka shrine it is literally is at the center of Gion. Right on the main street. Can't imagine when the July festival time!

A total of 6 people stayed with us for 2 nights, including my husband and wife, my daughter and her husband, and two male descendants of elementary school students.Although it is not a new building, the rooms and bedding are comfortable and clean.Breakfast was porridge, a few side dishes, and miso soup, and on the second day I had mixed rice. It was very delicious. In the morning, I participated in the morning service inside the main hall of Chorakuji Temple.Mr. Sakata's personality is wonderful, and I will visit him again. The package arrived safely, and thank you for the jacket as well. Thank you for your help.

This is the perfect cozy spot to stay in a picturesque area of Kyoto. Tons of places we wanted to visit were within a 20 minute walk. The traditional tatami room was comfortable, even down to the adorable tea setup. Sakata-san was a very caring host. He made a delicious breakfast for us each morning and took care to greet us nearly every time we came back from a day of adventures. One day we came back with a few vinyl records from Book Off. Adorably, for the rest of our stay he would play rock music quietly when we had breakfast. We recommend joining for the temple’s morning service at least once. Chorakuji is just a short walk up the hill. You get to make an incense offering and can even ring the large bell. You can take a short walk around the temple grounds and visit the mini museum. This place is perfect if you are looking for a homey and quiet place to stay.

There was currently a strict curfew of 10 p.m. Past reviews said it was 22:30, so it's best to check the latest time just to be sure. There were sufficient measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, so I felt safe.As per the reviews, the room was small and quiet, but the room was a spacious Japanese-style room in the Kyoto room, and there was a spacious area of 8 tatami mats or more. I stayed in one room per person, but I think it would be comfortable for 4 people. Walking along the cobblestone steps early in the morning and participating in the religious service at the temple allows you to spend an extraordinary time, making it a very friendly place for beginners. I felt a gentle warmth from both the chief priest and the people who seemed to be his family, and I wanted to come again.
