We stayed 2 nights and it was one of the experiences of our trip through Japan.Nina and Masaki are charming and go out of their way to teach their culture. We made the grilled pressed rice and the "omelet" with mirin and dashi the first night where they explained a lot of secrets of their daily cooking to us.The second origami night and we learned about their alphabets. It was all great! The hostel is impeccable and does not lack anything.Nina explained to us what to see in Kanazawa and gave us excellent recommendations.Arigato gozaimashita.

Guest House Pongyi was so great, even though I stayed for only one night! Nina-san was the sweetest house and welcomed you with open arms. Masaki-San told a lot about Japanese culture and the history of Pongyi. …

Wonderful place in Kanazawa. A feeling of welcome. In the evening there is the opportunity to sit together. Very clean, absolutely recommended!

It's a great Hostel, 100% considerate and warm experience. It is located in a traditional residential area that is quiet in the bustle. It is also a renovated 150-year-old old house. Although it is old, it is very clean. Taking a leisurely walk along the meandering Angyue River (stream) is very therapeutic. I will still choose here if I come to Kanazawa again.

The Pongyi Guest house doesn't just offer you a place to sleep, it offers you the opportunity to meet people and the most authentic of hospitality. We were treated like family friends, recommended excellent restaurants and experiences. The room and bathrooms were impeccably clean at all times of the day. Our double room, the only private room, was welcoming and in characteristic Japanese style. We couldn't have asked for anything better, without a doubt the best overnight stay of our trip.

Pongyi was one of the highlights of our trip. Travelled as a pair, stayed in the female dormitory (fits 4 people) for two nights. The house was apparently an old kimono shop repurposed as a guest house; the building itself is very charming and old, though the facilities themselves are modern and kept very clean. The beds of the dormitory were spacious, and there was comfortable air conditioning that kept the summer heat at bay. Safety protocols were in place for coming back home late.As many reviews have stated, the hostess Nina-san and host Masaki-san really help make Pongyi feel special. Nina-san was there for most of our stay. I was happy to converse with her in Japanese, and she was very kind and understanding. She is also skilled at English, and my friend who spoke only English felt very happy being able to have extended conversations with a local. Nina-san had a giant binderful of suggestions for places around Kanazawa to visit and eat at. She also taught us origami :) Masaki-san was super kind and made us shaved ice. That evening was very special to us.It was also really nice meeting travellers from other destinations!I'd recommend it especially for solo travellers and small groups.Since the female dormitory is upstairs, it would be good to keep light luggage and/or forward luggage to your next destination so it's not too much trouble. It was still OK for us.Thank you for the fantastic trip. If we ever come to Kanazawa again, we will be sure to stay here.
