Nice little quiet ryokan with an Ofuro bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good Japanese breakfast. There are certainly more luxurious ryokans but for us everything was right: location, rooms, food and service, hence the maximum number of points. You can never please anyone who complains here.

Sumiyoshiya was one of highlighted stays of my recent trip to Japan, and remains memorable even amongst our other stays in Hakone. The ryokan is located quite conveniently right beside Omicho Market, and a brisk walk to Kazuemachi/Higashi Chaya, and Kenroku-en.Walking into the reception imbues you with a sense of serenity. We were greeted by a gorgeous 床の間 (tokonoma) and Sumi-san, whom was courteous and polite from the moment we first arrived at the inn.Our room was spacious and came with its own bath, but we opted for the public gendered baths anyway. It was a quiet season, hence we both had each to ourselves at night.Breakfast was satiating with well grilled salmon, a sunny-side up, various tsukemono, vegetables and melon for a sweet finish. All in all, I could not imagine a better place to stay in Kanazawa if you're after a traditional ryokan.

I took the trouble to travel to the quaint Kanazawa,All of the business hotels are the same and are very bland. However, the budget for a luxury Japanese-style inn isMillet. This inn is perfect.Eating out separately without dinner is also fun.Close to Omicho Market, Castle and Kenrokuen GardenAlso within walking distance. The building is also very atmospheric. The service is also nice.

Located near the Omijo markets, the ryokan was an ideal location from which to explore Kanazawa. Our room had a separate bathroom and toilet, good air conditioning, and comfortable seats and futons. …

Typical Ryokan with attention to the smallest details with large rooms, rich breakfast (both Japanese and international). The owner was really kind and helpful. The onsen is also excellent!

"This is an inn where you can feel the traditional beauty of Japan."Several years have passed since I learned about Sumiyoshiya Ryokan and wanted to visit its Akakabe Room.I suddenly had time, so I made a reservation for ``Gunjo no Ma,'' which was the only place I could make a reservation for, three days later. On July 9, 2024, I arrived at Sumiyoshiya Ryokan, and the landlady consulted with a regular customer who had previously reserved a ``red-walled room with a 12-tatami bath and toilet'' and asked me to... He gave me the room.I was amazed at the thoughtfulness of the proprietress, who responded to my long-held wishes. The room was very beautiful and kept clean, and I was impressed by the modern facilities while maintaining 370 years of tradition. The interior pillars, wall finishes, and shoji screens were all very tasteful. At night, the room was very quiet with no curtains, and the silhouette of the latticework was beautiful, creating a truly wonderful atmosphere. When I looked up inside the room, I was used to seeing plywood ceilings, but the real wood ceiling felt very beautiful.Of course, it goes without saying that the alcove and hanging scroll are beautiful. The hotel's parking lot was also made convenient for me, which was very helpful during my 1 night and 2 day stay. The seasoning of the breakfast was also wonderful, especially the ``Kagata cucumber'' stew that I had for the first time in my life, which had a very elegant taste.During my stay, the landlady also taught me about the meaning of ``watchtower'' and ``open'' on the roof.We were also introduced to some delicious local restaurants, which made us really happy that we stayed there.I would like to visit again in winter.Next time, I would definitely like to stay at Akakabe no Ma.We recommend ``Sumiyoshiya Ryokan'' to guests visiting from overseas who want to experience the traditional beauty of Japan.I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the landlady."Thank you very much."

Stayed on Saturday. For dinner, enjoy salt-grilled Japanese rockfish, boiled crab, and jibuni. The proprietress' speech and behavior are gentle and pleasant.
