I went to have Kawadoko cuisine.A river is flowing beneath the floor, making a sound. It was a hot summer day, but the temperature seemed to be about 5 degrees cooler than in the city. The food was presented in a cool manner and was a feast for the eyes.I think it's nice to have a leisurely meal in a quiet environment.

Kifune Beniya is both a ryokan and restaurant on the Kibune River. During the summer (May 7-September 30 in 2024), they offer Kawadoko dining. This is where platforms are built over the water of the running stream, and the diners sit at low tables, on tatami mats, with cool water running underneath and waterfalls almost within touching distance. We escaped the heat of the city in early September 2024, to have a kaiseki set lunch at Beniya. We highly recommend this amazing experience and the Beniya food and service. Even if you miss the kawadoko season, it would still be worth eating in the dining room with views of the river. The traffic congestion at this time is dreadful, so either catch public transport, or go early and use one of Beniya's 30 car parks. The staff of Beniya will offer to drive you back to the train station. We parked down the hill a bit and walked to the restaurant and got a lift back to our car.

We have had only dinner here, because after visiting the shrine on a Sunday many restaurants were closed or full with large groups. What a luck that we ended up here! The hospitality was really great. The waitresses wore kimono and you could sit on the ground in the nice and cool ambient next to the river. The atmosphere was calm and everyone was very kind to us and tried helping us eating the many dinner dishes right. We loved tasting so many different things and all were suuuuper oishi 😋💕🍣🍤🦪 also they were so kind to bring us to the station in the dark and an elderly man took some very instagrammable pictures from us. Very lovely experience 🥰

Visited for lunch. I was very satisfied with the food! The murmuring of the river and the cool breeze were really soothing.I would like to visit again.⚠️Many people come by car, but the roads are narrow and cause unnecessary traffic congestion, so we strongly recommend that you park at a parking lot outside the Kibune area and use the train, bus, or shuttle. You can also walk there, but the width is so narrow that you might hit a car, so please be careful on both sides ⚠️

Summer in Japan: I think people from overseas will find this old-fashioned way of spending time in Japan appealing.

We didn't stay there, we just went to eat. It is expensive, I already said that at the beginning so that you are mentally prepared. But if you can afford it, it is a unique experience, a lasting memory of very special Japan. The food is great, we thought we would be left hungry and with nothing to see. Highly recommended to take refuge on very hot days. We went without a reservation and got a place for two, we only waited 10 minutes. They hardly speak English but they make themselves understood perfectly.
