For people looking for immersion in traditional Japanese culture: you’ve come to the right place! We slept really well on the futons, it was really comfortable and soothing.Only downside: you could hear a lot of noisy (disrespectful) people upstairs with their children walking so we slept with earplugs.Apart from the insulation, everything was good 👍

Budget friendly stay! However budgeted to the point where our twin room had no windows, and the shower needed a good soap scum removal effort. Otherwise loved the decor and the fact it was a 100+ year old building that still had historical character. Other guests were very polite and kept to themselves - but definitely noisey!

My room was located in the “Annex” building which was not featured in any of the photos on Google or on Booking.com. This “building” is horribly cramped and narrow, with the tiniest toilet room I’ve ever seen, and one gross-looking sink located in the hallway. The entire length of it is grimy and unclean. It’s also very buggy. It’s right across the alley from the library/lounge, which was much more spacious but the concrete floors also make it feel a bit grimy. The room itself was alright, just be prepared to be sleeping basically directly on the floor, as the futon mattress was maybe 3 inches thick.I already paid ahead of time, but was charged an extra accommodation tax that I was instructed to leave in cash in a bag in my room. Good thing I brought my own towel, because to use one they’ll charge you for that too.My sister and I attempted to do laundry here. My washing was successful, but after 2+ hours in the dryer was still not dry. During her load, the washing machine stopped mid-wash and would not turn back on, leaving all of her clothes submerged in dirty, soapy water. We ended up walking 2 minutes to a coin laundromat to dry my laundry and completely re-wash and dry hers. The location was convenient, with many bus stops right nearby and a 20-minute walk from Kyoto Station.I would not stay here again.

This accommodation is a renovated townhouse with a total of 4 buildings: the main house, a library, and 2 separate buildings.Guests can enter and exit each building, and each building has its own unique charm.A great place to stay if you like townhouse architecture. The inside of the building has also been renovated and is very beautiful. It's close to Kyoto Station and I would like to use it again.

Location is the best! Next to many bus stops. The room I booked (garden view) was spacious and clean. Because it is the 100-year building, I can hear when other guests walk by. However, I love this place.

There are multiple buildings, so you have to move from one building to another. It's difficult because you have to climb steep stairs. There are only shower facilities and no kitchen facilities at all.It just doesn't have the facilities of a regular hostel. This price is a rip-off for these facilities!.And there is no staffYou just have to read the note and move on your own.

The beds, if you can call them that, are terribly uncomfortable. It’s two thin, hard futon mats that are very old and stained. The Wi-Fi is spotty and unreliable. Staff are only on-site around checkin time. They charge for all extras (towels, ear plugs, ect). The air conditioner was ok, but the build is so old there is no insulation so the temperature is hard to regulate. There was also black mold everywhere. It’s cool to stay in a 100 year old building but I would pass on this place if I had a do over. If you really want to stay in a traditional building, find another one that’s been renovated or do it for one night then do your back a favor and go to a hotel with real beds
