I love this hostel so much 🫶🏻 I even make special video for it haha. It feels so homey especially in the winter. Yet it’s quite far from station and u need to drag ur luggage in icy road was quite challenging. The stairs was steep so be careful. The staff was very nice, he gave us a tour about the accommodation. Would definitely stay at this hostel again 🫶🏻

I stayed here during the Snow Festival. It was the cheapest accommodation I could find at that time. But the stay was really good. The common space was large and cute. There was free coffee, tea, and a water boiler... You can also wash clothes, use the bathroom 24/24. For this price, I was surprised that even I can use skin toner and lotion for free. It saved me cause I realised to bring mine after taking a bath. Wakana-san sent me a message to ask about my arrival time. She was really kind. Thank you so much for the experience.

Cosy and comfortable guesthouse. It's a 20 minute walk from Susukino but a 5 minute walk from a major bus route from and to Sapporo station. There is a female and a mixed dorm, kitchen, common living area and bathrooms. You can do laundry here, there is free tea and coffee 24/7 and welcome drink on your first night. The beds are super comfortable and each sleeping area comes with a light and power outlet. The guesthouse has a bar and restaurant on the first floor so you don't have to go out if you don't want to.

I stayed here twice. I don't recommend and completely don't understand the high ratings. About 15-20 minute walk to the city center, and farther from the train station. It makes more sense to stay somewhere better in a more central location for a few bucks more/night, than waste your money/time taking the bus/train or walking. They charge 500 yen if you check in after 10pm, but you have to let them know, and they don't answer the phone, either until the third try or not at all. Takes a while to communicate with them by email too. Not much English at reception, though the girl is very sweet and nice. If you check in after 11 they cancel your entire booking, no other option. You'd know this only if you read through all the info on their listing page before booking, at the end of the page. But I give 1 star because: the bed was uncomfortable, blanket had a stain on it. AC didn't cool the room properly, some lack of air filtration. I was sweating all night. The mattress and sheets would fall off the bed, difficult getting down from the top bunk. No storage room to put bags, have to put them on the bed. No locker to put valuables, so carry them with you all day. Scant security in general. They let one particular old Japanese man stay long term, unfriendly, has stuff everywhere, snores. Snoring was easy to hear all night, lack of noise isolation. There aren't many restaurant options nearby. Toilet room is small and cramped. The one and only shower was okay but shampoo had nut allergen ingredients, so be careful and dont use if you have a nut allergy. To be social you either sit at the table next to reception or upstairs in the little lounge area right next to the rooms, was a bit cramped, some people talk loudly at 8:00am. One night they played loud music downstairs clearly audible from upstairs after 20:00. Really nasty smell on the staircase outside every time you go to/from the dorms, coming from the restaurant next door that blows its cooking fumes right at the staircase. Overall, I had a hard time sleeping, sweating and hearing noises all night, my stuff everywhere with nowhere secure to put it, poor communication with reception, their one bike for rent was broken so couldn't rent it, and every day I step outside greeted by the nasty smell from next door. If you can find another place more central a few dollars more expensive, stay there instead.

Waya was my first stop on a 5-week trip through Japan, and in the end staying here was one of the highlights of my entire trip. So much so that I extended my stay here by an extra 5 nights. …

My second time at Waya was again a fantastic experience. Since my first time there in 2015 they have expended by adding a bar downstairs and more rooms in the back of it. …

I was traveling by myself to Sapporo and decided to stay at an hostel to be able to meet people and hang out with others that might be in the same situation. I came across with Waya and read comments left by previous guests and decided to give it chance. Since the beginning, the staff was pretty efficient in answering my emails and giving me detailed info on how to reach the hostel once in Sapporo, so it was really easy to get there once I arrived to the city.Check-in was really smooth and I met Kay, who was beyond nice and helpful. At the hostel there was a really nice vibe and many locals were hanging out by the bar area. All of them recommend places for dinner and activities for my trip.Besides the kindness of the staff, I was really surprised about the many activities Waya has to offer. The next day I participated in a dinner party, the lovely Mari cooked Hokkaido food for us. It was just amazing.Checkout was also very smoothly and Eve gave me all the details of how to reach the airport. There is a bus stop super close to the hostel, so it is really convenient.I am very happy I came across this place. I will recommend it to everyone. Thanks for everything Yang Yang, Hiroaki, Mari, Eve and Kay.

Our stay at Waya was very smooth and great fun, all we needed for a few days away in Sapporo. It's perfectly sized to feel comfortable. The self service breakfast and amenities options right at hand make it feel like a little home. …

I loved Waya when I visited in 2019. The bed was clean and comfortable and there was just enough space. There wasn't a place to lock up my luggage, but it wasn't really a problem for me. It was kind of close to transportation; about a 10-15 min walk to the train station, I think. I would stay here again.

I'm an Italian student who travelled with her friends during the 2017/2018 winter break. We stayed in Sapporo for one week, and I must say that we found Waya hostel perfect for our needs and our standards. …
