We had a wonderful stay at this traditional ryokan. The employees were extremely gracious and made us feel at home. Even if you are new to the concept of ryokan, you should have no trouble getting accustomed to the rules, which are explained very clearly. They did speak sufficient English. Overall it was an authentic experience and a must for anyone visiting Japan. The rooms are equipped with a private bath (in addition to the public baths, separated for nen/eomen), hot water pots, and extra bedding. The location was just a short walk from Kyoto Station. I would love to return to Hotel Ryokan Wakamiya next time I visit Kyoto.

I've only been there once, but I remember the food being delicious. I was glad I didn't have to eat outside.
