Stayed for 1 night to experience the onsen in this nice little village. A one night is more than sufficient to see the night light up, magical. …

Top notch ryokan experience. Modern interior. Five different themes of private baths to try and enjoy (we tried 4 of 5). Best kaiseki we’ve had on our trip after having been to Ginzan Onsen, Kakunodate, Kusatsu Onsen, Kyoto and Kurokawa. Made our stay at Ginzan Onsen all the more memorable!

Rooms were spacious and service was top notched. Just a little hard to get to if you’re dragging a luggage as the area is a car restriction zone. Fortunately, the helpful staff are avail to carry your luggage for you from the designated parking area. However, the winter view is worth while for that added hassle. Especially magical when it snows.

Architecture is great, servise is good, room design not so practical for the wash basin area. And the FOOD was terrible which only worth 1 star. They served frozen sashimi and spoiled wagyu, pre prepared duck pot. Moreover this place is full of tourists. Will not recommend my friends come for a visit.

Good location but not easy to get to. Our room had great view of the town but the bathroom didn't have door. Washbasin was at the top of the bed with mirror hanging down from the ceiling. Very strange and impractical layout. Food was acceptable. Good miso soup. With the exception of one member of staff who was rude, not what you would expect from a japanese ryokan, the rest of the staff were good, friendly and helpful.

Had the most amazing experience staying here. Huge property yet very boutique. Meals are served in the room. The 5 private onsen is 100% a big hit!

Chanced upon this inn while friends were looking for accommodation; our main intention was to catch the wonderful winter views with the ryokan against the frosty backdrop (both day and when the lights lit up at night) - we were not disappointed. Views were spectacular and even more so from Fujiya Inn where the rooms were so beautiful. Since we travelled as 4 we had meals in both the Japanese and Western styled rooms. Both were unique but equally well thought out.Rooms: beautiful, spacious and thoughtfully designed. Warm during winter and a space with a viewing platform for couples or friends to have meals together while admiring the scenery outside.Service: Where to start? Great pick up service from the station, accoms staff were attentive to details from remembering your suitcase model, your shoe type (since you'll be wearing the ryokan's footwear for most of your time). Our room attendant (who served us our meals) was discreet, polite, friendly yet informative when it came to scheduling our ride back and helping us understand the components of our meal. Can't begin to rave enough about him (we didn't get his name) but this photo of us with him will have to do!!! We loved his presence.Accommodation provides snowboots for those who might not have one.Amenities: Private onsen was spacious and nice for a group of 4; maybe it was just us but the temperature was pretty hot (we're probably just not used to it because we don't have it back at home)Food: Had both dinner and breakfast at Fujiya and well worth it!!! Food was so well thought out and just brought out the immense pride of Yamagata's best offerings - you can sense the pride as the staff describe the food and it's the most wonderful thing. Words don't do the food and experience enough justice but we were so spoilt by the selection from the freshness of the sashimi to the lightness of the soybean based meal. Our friend who couldn't take raw fish had cooked fish instead and it was also executed well.Overall, just an amazing experience and while priced higher than other Ryokans around the area, if you're looking for an experience to remember and want an unbeatable introduction to Ginzan's onsens... look no further.Would come here in a heartbeat, heck a millisecond!!!! :)

The place is beautiful. We got the biggest room with bathtub and the view is gorgeous. There are 5 private onsen with different scene like bamboo, stone. The staff are nice and has good enough English to get along. Comes with Dinner and Breakfast! Highly recommend to book early and stay a night.

While the village gained popularity due to a famous Japanese cartoon, it wasn't quite what I expected. The area felt overly crowded and lacked sights beyond the initial draw. The onsen was average, and the food at the inn fell short of expectations. For future travelers, I wouldn't recommend staying in this specific area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay at this ryokan. From the moment that we were greeted by the friendly and helpful staff, to the introduction to our from, it was very memorable. The dinner and breakfast were superb and leaned towards being the right amount and healthy side, so nothing felt overwhelming. You cannot talk about this ryokan without mentioning its location. It is right in the heart of Ginzan Onsen and we were about to see the streets from the comfort of our room. The location is simply top notched and we would love to come back to visit and stay at the same ryokan again.Thank you very much for your hospitality!
