The hotel is wonderful, with all the details taken care of and the staff is simply fantastic. We stayed 4 nights and the experience was unbeatable. I would plan my trip to Kyoto based on Tamao's availability without hesitation.

seeing all the 5-star reviews, i was doubtful at first but after staying at tamao now i know why! everything is so amazing from the decor, the location, the breakfast, and most notably the hospitality of the owner. it’s so good i want to keep it to myself 🥹 thank you nari-san and koichi-san! will definitely go back

This room is located in a converted Kyoto townhouse. I spent three nights in bed and fell down all three nights, but it was a wonderful place. They also provided us with delicious water and delicious coffee. I came to Kyoto for my daughter's wedding, and I was very moved by how happy she was. The bath was big, and I was sad that I had to leave when the old man couldn't read. If you are in good spirits, I think you can walk to both Shimizu and Yasaka. It was nice to have a convenience store nearby.

When we first got here, we thought wow the staff are incredible and then we got to our rooms which surpassed expectations. The baths and design are amazing. But I keep coming back to the staff they were so kind and helpful. It was the best blend of local hospitality and privacy. Lovely delicious breakfast as well and pre dinner drinks! Location is also ideal for exploring the livelier and quieter sides of Kyoto.

Tamao was one of the best places worldwide we have ever stayed at. Returning back to this beautiful and calm oasis after visiting Kyoto's sights was always our favourite part of the day. We are already missing our little "Japanese home" and especially every single member of the wonderful staff. Hope to be back some day!

We stayed at Tamao for 4 nights during May 2024 and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and we immediately felt comfortable. The interior design of this hotel is amazing.Most importantly, the staff was absolutely amazing and welcomed us like family.We would definitely book again.Thank you Team Tamao for the wonderful time we were able to have at your place.
