Lovely old-school guesthouse in a beautiful secluded spot by the river. Steve made us feel like family. Definitely stay here if you appreciate rustic nature and genuine hospitality. We will gladly return. Thanks for the memorable stay.

The owner has a poor behavior with skin of dark color. He keeps forgetting things. The canadian host doesn't have any ettiquet of doing business in Japan.Edit: As expected, this guy forgot that I was staying at the guesthouse. Such a lousy behavior in the land of Japan is not forgivable. He should consult with some mental health specialist.

The location of this place is really nice.Typical house on the edge of a river and the forest, the “Totoro” atmosphere that I was looking for was perfectly transcribed here.The owner is very friendly and caring, he will be able to suggest various places to visit in the surrounding area.I highly recommend this accommodation and I would return!

The innkeeper is talkative and interesting. He took me to a nearby station. Kind. polite. You can stay comfortably. Hotels in Sendai City are getting more expensive these days, so it's relatively cheap. Inconvenient if you don't have a car.

We stayed for 3 nights and Steve was an excellent host. If you are staying here you will enjoy the fantastic nature. You'll stay in a traditional rokkan. I'm your bed you can hear the river outside. It's super relaxing.

The room was very comfortable and there was private use of the Onsen. The area is beautiful and you could spend days exploring the surrounding area. Also a short drive into Sendai for a day trip.

We do not offer day trip baths.I have a free-ranging dog. Not recommended for people who don't like dogs. 2 stars because they didn't let the dog go even though I said no.

I used it on a summer vacation trip with friends.It looks like a facility that was used as a hot spring inn in the past, and is a large mansion with an atmosphere that looks like something out of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.The owner was very kind and made sure that we had a comfortable stay.It was great to be soothed by the smell of wooden tatami mats and the sound of the Hirose River nearby.This is an inn that you would definitely want to use again for activities such as playing in the river and having barbecues.

Really quaint charming place. Visited in September and the warnings about bugs seemed to be overblown, there weren’t any in the room we stayed at. The place has a cool story attached to it, and the owner is incredibly friendly. We had a large fire going the first night and everyone sat around and drank and had a merry time until late at night.Our stay kind of had a “glamping” vibe to it. Others there were camping in the area, but we had a bedroom to go at the end of the night.The decor of the ryokan is really retro (in a good way), there were beautiful ornate music boxes in our bedroom, that at a normal Japanese ryokan would probably not be touchable, let alone in your room to play as often as you like. It felt almost like being invited to a friend’s family cottage with the decor being there from their grandparents - only all Japanese.A really great stay for a surprising retro Japanese experience ran by a Canadian guy who with local help has restored a piece of local history.We really enjoyed our stay there, even if it were not for the beautiful location and fascinating look into Japan’s past the building provides, the owner’s charisma and friendliness alone would have made our trip worth it.Thoroughly recommended to those who want a unique experience in a retro Japanese ryokan, those who want to experience some nature without getting too in the mud, and those who enjoy drinking into the night by the fire.Probably the best way to book is finding the Facebook page and messaging the owner on there. It’s fun entirely by one guy, so just going through him is all you need to do!

If you are looking for perfect getaway from city hussle, this place is for you, But mind it, this place is more like deep in nature & no luxurious kind of stuff.But best part is Host, he is one of the kindest person i ever met in the hospitality sector of Tohoku Area,Quick Access to River, you are do your BBQ and Owner can provide you with all stuff.

Konosu Onsen is located a little far from the Akiu Onsen town, and is an old private inn along the river. The friendly foreign owner will warmly welcome you! It's a hot spring inn with a pleasant river flow that feels both nostalgic and new. You can enjoy the luxury of nothing!

Very nice and quiet ryokan from the 80's. You can make your own food there. The simplicity makes a good place to be at peace.
