Although it is an old building, the rooms and communal toilets are clean. The indoor bath is small, but you can use it until the morning. The open-air bath is in a detached building next door, and is reserved for private use.If you have a key at the front desk, you can take it out and use it. Both were clean, comfortable and relaxing. You can also use the public hot springs nearby. Coins are required for Sujiyu Onsen, but you can get them at the front desk. Locals also come, and depending on the timing, there can be a lot of people. You can also take a bath in the open-air rock bath and the indoor bath, Yakushi-yu, but they are separated by men and women on odd-numbered and even-numbered days. Iwanyu is a rock bath with a moss-covered roof, giving it an elegant feel. Part of the room has a roof, so it was safe even in the rain. The meal was hearty and delicious, with a focus on local ingredients.

A very traditional Japanese inn with tatami mats in the room and quilts on the floor to sleep on.The floor is made of wood, so there will be some noise when walking, and people who are sensitive to sound may need to bring their own earplugs.Restrooms are shared. To bathe, you can only go to the washing area next to the hotel's hot spring bath.It will be very cold and snowy nearby in winter, but the heating in the room is very powerful, so don't worry too much. But there is a problem: it will be very dry. There is a humidifier in the room, but the water tank is a bit dirty. People who care can bring their own portable humidifier.Be sure to have winter tires or snow chains when driving in winter! There is a coin-operated laundry nearby within a few steps' walk.It is not very convenient to eat nearby, so it is highly recommended to book breakfast and dinner at the hotel. I mean, I highly recommend it! The meal was surprisingly rich. I stayed several nights and each time the meals were slightly different and the portions were more than adequate. (I didn’t include rice and soup in some photos)There are several unmanned hot spring baths nearby that are jointly maintained by multiple hotels, including Chongda Hot Spring, Yakushiyu, and open-air rock baths. For every night you stay, you can receive a hot spring admission coin. However, there are no bathing products and no hot water in the hot spring. It is best to wash up in the hotel's own hot spring bath before going there. The hotel's own hot spring is also quite comfortable. The water temperature is on the hotter side, which is just right for me. Bath supplies are provided, and towels are provided in the room. The hotel owner is very kind. Even if I don't understand the language, he still enthusiastically introduces nearby attractions to me using a translation app.The accommodation fee is also very cheap, so it is highly recommended to go!

Sujiyu Onsen Takaraya Ryokan is located near the Kokonoe Dream Suspension Bridge. This ryokan has a fairly old feel and is very good value for money. The quality of the water is really good as it is a hot spring from Mt. Kuju, and the hot spring is equipped with a facility that falls from the top to the bottom, which creates a massage and is said to be good for muscle pain. Older ryokans often serve well-cooked meals, and Takaraya Ryokan also offers a full menu. This is a place I would recommend if you are planning a casual trip to a ryokan in Japan. Since it's in the mountains, don't be surprised if you encounter various wild animals. You can check the review on YouTube “3 Minute Travel”.

This is truly a long-established inn! I used it for work this time, but I would definitely like to use it again for private use.
