Great little mom & pop Japanese restaurant. There were only 4 tables but there was still an open table at 1830 when we left after our meal (opens at 1800). They’ve figured out a way to serve foreign tourists & seemed to even accept some credit cards (not sure which as we paid cash). Yakisoba was great!

Visiting from Australia booked in for dinner and can say the most amazing meal we have ever had hence why we booked again,, hubby and wife who run the restaurant cannot express how much we loved your sensational food and service, thank you so much if we had found you earlier we would have dined there every night of our stay.

Restaurant food and service was excellent. A real family home cooked experience. We were very grateful for the attention they gave to our kids to help us get through the challenging evening period after a big day.

Our third trip to Hakuba and first time at Hakuba Pension 70. Some positives, but unfortunately some negatives. The lovely elderly couple that own and run the Pension are wonderful and very accommodating.Unfortunately the accommodation is a little second rate, a solid 2 star. Our bedroom had this awful smell, not sure whether it was the result of cooking downstairs or sewerage. But not good. The room had a gas heater that we turned off at night to ensure we were not poisoned by carbon monoxide. Very cold at night despite the two blankets and doona.Accommodation needs a significant revamp, but it should be remembered you do get what you pay for. At A$200 per night for two single beds it was OK.Cheers.

Ate at the restaurant. My empty plates say it all. Had fried rice, duck soba, gyoza, braised pork and churro. Nothing disappointed and insane value for money. Would recommend.

This room at the Pension 70 was far from what we expected. We understood the pension was similar to a hostel, but I don't think it's excusable for some of the conditions. Our room was OK--separate beds with sleeping pads on a wooden shelf. Both our hips were sore after sleeping on them. The entire pension and building is freezing, to the point where we could see our breath in the hallways. Not exactly comfortable after a day skiing, especially since the rooms are still somewhat pricey. There are spiderwebs and dust in the rooms and washrooms and one of the rooms had a clogged sink and plumbing and an unbearable odor. The owners are friendly, to a point. We did get yelled at for not taking our shoes off inside the house and they refused a refund to friends after leaving early (they got the smelly room). Otherwise, they were mostly friendly.Fortunately, the showers are good and hot, just on a different floor and the rooms were quiet, just not very upkept. There are silver linings of course. It's a great location and the restaurant has good reviews and they have a ski storage room. We made it through our stay fine, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Love this place! Very authentic Japanese and the elderly couple are so cute! Food is unreal and the service is great! Make sure to go here if staying in Hakuba - perfect for a casual and authentic Japanese meal.

This restaurant was the worst. When I asked a foreign friend who had allergies about dishes that didn't have garlic in them, an 85-year-old grandfather (I was even told at the end that I was 85 years old, so let me say what I wanted to say!) told me that everything had garlic in it. It's not in there. That's what I was told first, but my friend gets symptoms from even a little bit of garlic, so I added some gyoza, right? After confirming that, if that's the case, go home! For some reason, he got angry at me, and I didn't understand why he had to get angry at me. I'm not saying I like it or dislike it, I just wanted to make sure since I'm allergic. Moreover, in the end, I didn't know who the person's wife was, but the lady asked, "Are you Japanese?" It's normal for Japanese people to know which dishes contain garlic. I was told. I'm Japanese, but I've lived in Australia for a long time. I cook, and of course I can usually tell which dishes have garlic in them, but it's just in the sauce. It's not in there. This dish is absolutely fine. I was just looking for advice, but the response was to criticize people who have allergies, and even though I came back to Japan, Japanese people should know about Japanese cuisine. I was also disappointed in such a response. I was surprised at how poorly I responded. If you have allergies, it is best not to go there. You will be refused just because you have an allergy. Restaurants, if they don't want to deal with allergies that much, they won't allow people with allergies into the restaurant sign. It should also be written as But in this day and age, you can't do that.

Great meal, but we were treated poorly/rudely by the elderly couple after my wife asked if any of the food contained garlic because our friend is allergic. They are tired of dealing with allergies and just said "nothing contains garlic". My wife is Japanese so she knows that many of the things would do so, so she wanted to confirm that the gyouza didn't. Anyway to cut a long story short, the old chap said "you're Japanese, use your common sense about what's got garlic in it". It was so rude. It would be unfair not to follow that with saying all of the food was great, and really good value. Just don't come here with any allergies or dietary requirements.

We ate in the restaurant run by this old Japanese couple whose grandkids are 24 years old, leaving us to deduce their age. It’s the best Beef Ramen we have had and fried tofu too. Absolutely must have experience in Hakuba!
