It was my first time staying at such a wonderful hotel!Rather than going out to eat, the meal was prepared by a chef who knows a lot about Kagawa, and it was so delicious! It was a memorable stay and trip to Kagawa ✨

First impression/FoodFirst thing you notice about this place is just how friendly the staff is.If you go in around dinner time, the cook/owner(? Not sure) Ryo will urge you to have dinner at JAQ. It is ABSOLUTELY worth it. 2000 yen for a multi course meal with 1 drink. It was actually some of the best food I had during my trip and it really caught me off guard. You would eat with the other guests and sometimes some staff too. All very nice and interesting to talk to.Ryo is also just a cool guy to hang out with and talk to. He will usually stick around a bit after dinner and chat, but he will also play card games or even have an impromptu singing session after bringing out his guitar or ukulele. (He has a shamisen too but I haven't seen him play it).The free breakfast is a nice simple bowl of udon. Although I think bread and rice are available as well. You also have the choice of the type of udon. Even though it costs 100 yen extra, I recommend the butter+egg one at least once. It's a very unique udon dish and it's delicious if you're okay with eating a raw egg. Ryo describes it as being like a carbonara.AccomodationIt's fairly standard for a Japanese hostel. The room I was in was in a capsule hotel style, but made of plywood. Unfortunately the ventilation for the little nook I had wasn't too good and it wasn't in a position where it got that much AC. I had to sleep in my underwear without any sheets just to keep myself from sweating during the hot summer nights. It was a bit more private than bunk beds so that was nice. All of this is pretty standard Japanese hostel though I would think (I've stayed at 5+ hostels in Japan at this point).LocationOverall slightly awkward, but not bad. It's close enough to the most central subway station (Kawaramachi, 17 minute walk, but you could also walk to a closer station and take the train for a total of 10 minute transit including the walk). 20 some odd minutes walking and taking a train from Takamatsu station but 30 odd minutes instead just by walking. I opted to walk all of this every time, but I did wish JAQ was just a bit closer to a station.Overall, it was a very good experience. What really made this trip for me was the hospitality that Ryo gave , as well as the rest of the staff. They know the town and the surrounding areas well and go above and beyond what I would have expected to do. I would recommend this place to everyone going to Takamatsu!

Very good beds, had a great time with other guests (EU and JP), but the biggest plus was the staff. They were very kind and this hostel has Ryo (the chef) who makes very very tasty meals! 100% definitely worth the price. Would stay again!

The chef stationed here was a very friendly person. They talked to us about tourist spots in Kagawa Prefecture and udon, and gave us a lot of useful information 😊There was a women-only area in the room and shower room, so I felt safe using it.The breakfast on the first night was udon, which was very delicious and warmed me up.When I visit Kagawa Prefecture again, I would definitely like to use this place again!

The food prepared by the resident chef at the guesthouse was delicious. It was the last day of my part-time job, so I had a luxurious shabu-shabu. It was delicious.
