Staff on site were very helpful, but overall experience was soured by some deceptive information when booking accommodation. We had booked as the accommodation was pitched towards skiers, with on-site ski pass sales and nearby onsens. The ski pass turned out to be a bus ride away, which was fine as we only needed to buy the cards once and could then recharge online. But when we asked about the "excellent hot spring onsens" nearby, such a part of the experience of skiing in Japan, the staff laughed at the "poetic license" taken by the owners when writing accommodation descriptions. The nearest onsen was 20 mins away by unreliable shuttle bus (shuttles passing the local stop were often full, so plan on hitching rides or taking taxis). Although google maps showed a few nearby onsens to back up the accom's claim when we were booking, these turned out to be private ones not available to guests at Chalet Banff.

Place with a very 'strict cancellation policy'. Just consider for unforeseen circumstances that can happen prior your trip...My partner and I contracted covid-19 just 3 days prior our departure and decided to cancel our trip. I called in advance, but there was zero understanding of our situation, although the staff members I was in contact with were very polite.I understand, peak season, last minute, but the illness doesn't pick its time..Fyi, was able to cancel another 2 bookings in Niseko, Rusutsu and 1 in Sapporo with zero cancellation fee. The same for flights within Japan, and only under 30% cancellation fee for our round trip from Australia.Our booking was just for 3 nights.

Clean affordable guesthouse with kind service. Simple lodging on the Higashiyama side with really wonderful customer service. Shared kitchen and associated with niseko ski lodge if you want breakfast etc

The area is quiet and has a nice view. It is possible to make a triple room using the sofa bed, making it ideal for families. Although I stayed without meals, I wanted to enjoy the stay with meals included, and the owner and his wife were friendly and had a nice atmosphere.The only downside is that the bath and sink are in the same room, so the sink and floor get wet after using the bath. Would it be useful to have a shower curtain?

We arrived later at night, quick check in . No food after 20:30. Rooms are not to big , but ok for stay .Had a good sleep . Breakfast was very good , fresh Hokkaido Milk , Jogurt ,bread , coffee, Orange juice ,soup !

I have stayed at Banff in the end of 2016 with my family. The room is neat and clean with 3 beds, TV, a separate bathroom and toilet. There are only 4 rooms in this lodge so make sure to book the room at earliest possible. …
