Rokkon guest house was the best accommodation we stayed at whilst in Japan. It is ideally located - not so close to the centre of town that it felt swamped with tourists in the local area, but worth a metro and bus stop very close nearby and only one stop from the river. The presentation of the entire property is gorgeous; traditional modern Japanese style with many sweet and stylish touches, for example the private courtyard garden for the room is the perfect outlook whilst enjoying breakfast. The host - Kayoko could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The traditional Japanese breakfast she prepared every morning was delicious and she accommodated out dietary requirements perfectly; she even left us local tea varieties and snacks whilst we were out sightseeing so we had a treat to come back to. Furthermore, she had lots of local recommendations and helped us to book tickets for the Osaka aquarium that was further along on our holiday itinerary. I have already recommended Rokkon Guest House to my friends who are travelling to Kyoto and urge anyone staying in Kyoto to book! ✨✨✨✨✨ (A five star review is not high enough!)

Beautiful accommodation with an immersion in Kyoto specialtiesThe traditional accommodation has a good location, short distances to public transport, and some things can also be reached on foot. As you can see in the photo, the little house feels like it is right in the front garden of the neighboring high-rise building. Something special, but with little space in Japanese cities, it's no surprise and no disadvantage! Our time in the accommodation took place 100% inside the air-conditioned interior. The hostess Kayoko is extremely nice, helpful and goes to great lengths to bring Japan and Kyoto closer to her guests. She lovingly prepared a Japanese breakfast every day (and explained it with an English-language menu) and there was always a surprise waiting for us when we returned in the evening. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and were cleaned up every day.Everything was fine!At most, the very narrow and steep staircase to the upper floor, which is common in such Japanese houses, is difficult with children, luggage or someone with walking difficulties.Kayoko, we really enjoyed our 5 days with you. Thank you for your great and loving hospitality!

April 2024.First time trying a Guest House, I actually was looking forward to Kyoto for this place due to all the positive reviews and I can only confirm how amazing our trip was greatly thanks to having this place to stay in. Thank you so so much Kayoko for your warm welcome and for taking such a good care of us. Much love from Paris ! We really appreciated all your small attention throughout our stay.We stayed for 3 nights and had the chance to have 2 amazing Japanese typical breakfast with some of Kyoto’s speciality. Everything was amazingly good and we were looking every night forward to the next morning. We have also really appreciated the teas and the snacks, and each of your small words for the day ✨The room was peaceful, cozy and very clean. The towels were changed everyday. We never slept so well in Japan. We had the chance to have a small garden and with the electrical chimney, we spent great and restful nights. The room was just perfect, the food was amazing and the host’s hospitality is just out of this world. It was truly the best lodging we ever had in a any trip. We could not have asked for more.Special thank you for accommodating us even on our last morning by preparing us a breakfast bento for our train trip back to Tokyo.❤️

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights during a 3.5 week trip around Japan, and this was our favorite stay of the trip by far. The owner, Kayoko, is so sweet. She made us delicious breakfasts every morning (and each one was different), and we came back each evening to a different pot of tea, treats, and warm notes (with cute drawings). Would absolutely recommend this place!

This guesthouse is a great base for exploring Kyoto and the owner, Kayoko, could not be any sweeter. We stayed in the 2nd floor room which was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom and shower were a nice size and the beds, linens, and pajamas were very comfortable. We loved the fireplace which did an excellent job of keeping everything warm and cozy.Kayoko made wonderful breakfasts in the morning and lovely teas in the afternoon. She always included regional specialties and the cutest menus with drawings. It is one of the few times we had fruit and/or vegetables in our meals which was a very welcomed change of pace.If you’re a very light sleeper like I am, turn on some white noise on your phone and you’ll be sleeping like a baby. I highly recommend staying here!
