You can’t visit Japan without staying in a Ryokan and we’re so glad we chose this one. The hosts are so welcoming and helped us with our luggage on arrival. On our first day, a bath was prepared for us, followed by a wonderful tea ceremony which was one of my favourite moments on this trip! Such a beautiful art and a taste of traditional Japan which I’ve always wanted to be a part of. In the morning, a delicious breakfast was waiting for us and the host had adapted it to suit our dietary requirements (vegan) which was greatly appreciated. This is a must if you’re in Kyoto and wish to have an authentic experience in the most amazing setting. A highlight of our trip!

Staying at the Ryokan Tori was by far the highlight of my trip to Japan. The owners are incredibly kind and clearly pride themselves on providing an exceptional experience to their guests. Shortly after our arrival, we were treated to a private tea ceremony. She had learned the ceremony at a traditional school in Kyoto that has passed down that particular style for over 500 years! The room was cozy and the private bath was very relaxing after a long day of exploring Kyoto. In the morning, we had a traditional Japanese breakfast, which was unique and delicious. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting Kyoto.
