My wife and I spent 11 days in Japan and 6 in the Hoshinoya. Choosing this hotel was the single best decision we made all trip. The hotel is a traditional Japanese Inn which is unlike any place I have stayed. First, no shoes allowed in the hotel. You check them in by the entrance. If you want to wear other shoes, bring them down by hand. When I read that before staying I was a little apprehensive but after the first time doing so I looked forward to it every time we got back.Hotel is immaculate and well designed. Room was spacious and the mattress was quality. Great shower and bathtub and great skin products. This hotel is truly an oasis. Tokyo is lively and packed with people. Each floor is secluded and there is a common area with tea, coffee, and snacks. When you walk in you feel like you are entering a high end spa. It is centrally located and has fast access to Tokyo Station and Otemachi subway. The surrounding area is the financial district and gets very quiet at night which is a welcomed breather. We went all over Tokyo and the Hoshinoya made it easy to get in and around. I will definitely be back.

Wonderful experience, stellar service, comfortable central lounge on each floor with coffee tea and minimal snacks. Quiet comfortable rooms. Service with eager help and a polite bow even just waiting for the elevator door to close. …

Had high expectations of this hotel, having stayed in other Hoshinoya resorts. This one is by far the most expensive, laughable, and overpriced one. The rooms are worn and dated, the bathroom is bleak. With the black tile, you can't see how not clean and moldy it is until you shine a light on. There is actually nothing to do in this hotel aside from the onsen, which is in itself cool and a novelty, but the changing rooms are so small and dirty. Not sure why this hotel gets so much press, considering other sister properties in SE Asia are much friendlier and nicer. Prices are crazy expensive, and many of the events that used to be free of charge are now costly. They're getting greedy, clearly. We were also also told we were not allowed to have my brother in law join for breakfast because the hotel is closed to non-guests. He was stopped before the even got into the hotel lobby and told to wait outside. Like, we are paying 1.5K/night for a room, and breakfast is another $150 per person, what do you mean he can't join our meal? After arguing about how harassing my family is not appropriate, they told us we had to sit in the lobby supervised by the staff if we wanted to talk to him inside the property. Definitely felt like a prison, with so many rules, as many other reviews mentioned. Also, I asked for slippers in the room and they said they didn't have any, and that I should wear their wooden shoes, which are super heavy. What kind of hotel doesn't have slippers, especially when they make us take off our shoes? I am sure the floor isn't THAT clean, ok.When I asked what kind of hotel doesn't have slippers and doesn't let anybody in community even step foot into their property, the manager rudely and very snarkily said "we aren't a hotel we are a ryokan." If you don't claim to be a hotel, why do you so openly flaunt you World's 50 Top Hotels title? So arrogant and ridiculous!PLEASE STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE, Janu was much cleaner and nicer at a similar price point. Aman brand can't go wrong. Highly recommend Bellustar and Hotel Toranomon Hills for something half the price but way nicer, cleaner, and friendlier as well. Don't list to the hype, they clearly paid for it.

Hoshinoya Tokyo reinvents the traditional ryokan in a sleek 17-storey tower in the business district. Expect tatami mats throughout (even in elevators), plush futons, and rooms framed by sliding screens. Each floor has a shared lounge serving tea and snacks, while breakfast can be enjoyed in-room with a beautifully crafted bento box. The highlight is a rooftop onsen fed by natural spring water from 5,000 feet below.

I've stayed at Hoshinoya Tokyo several times now and every experience is just as good as the previous stays. I usually try to make this my last stop before leaving Japan because the hotel has an incredible calming effect. Once you step inside you are greeted by welcoming staff and relinquish your shoes. From there you head up to reception to check in where a staff member acts as your concierge to the hotel offerings and shows you to your room. Guests are restricted to several floors in the hotel and I assume this is to promote a greater level of privacy for each party. Your room floor has a public lounge area that is stocked with snacks, drinks, tea, etc. Having breakfast in your room is also a very nice experience. The onsen is very clean and has the coolest chimney vent extending to the top of the building to expose the sky above Otemachi. The changing area is well stocked with high quality amenities.I highly recommend the tea ceremony and or the kendo class during your stay. I did not opt for the Hoshinoya dinner during this stay, but I have in the past and it is also a memorable experience. If you read this far, thank you. If you opt to visit Hoshinoya, please be open minded about experience and learning about Japanese culture. The hotel is a perfect opportunity to learn from the kind and very helpful staff. As a huge fan of this property and it's staff, please be respectful if you are a foreigner.ホント に ありがとございます 🙏
