We stayed at Tocen Goshoboh in August. Amazing Experience, something that I will never forget and highly recommend. Nothing was a problem at all, staff are all very friendly and service could not be faulted. Highly recommend the dinner as it was something very special to experience and the breakfast was also something else.Even accommodated for a private onsen for the two of us because my partner has tattoos and brought us drinks directly to our room on request. The Futons were the best and most comfortable beds we had slept on the entire time we were in Japan.Arima Onsen is very pretty with lots to explore and Tocen Goshoboh was right in it heart. When we left to our next destination, the staff all stood by the door saying good bye. This is personalised, attentive service at its best. Will definitely return when we are next in Japan.

We were staying in the annex (tabiyu abrigo) but the welcome was as perfect as if we were in the main hotel. Our suitcases were left in the room which was great as they were heavy and there were lots of stairs. All locks are pin coded. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the train station, and right next to the Kin no yu public bath. The room is tatami, it is very large and clean.Bed a little hard but comfortable.Yukata are provided for going to the baths. It was a very quiet place. On the other hand, there are no curtains, the light enters naturally at sunrise.

Needless to say, I was very satisfied with the nearby food and gift shops, especially the hot spring special course, sulfur hot springs, and traditional Japanese rooms, and I would like to say that the service here is the best in the world.

Everything is unified by Kosuke Watanuki's design, making it an inn that provides guests with a wonderful sense of comfort.🔸Shared spaceEven in the common spaces, exhibits are displayed like this, making the entire building look like a Kosuke Watanuki art museum. The structure is made up of three buildings combined, so it is not barrier-free and has a complicated structure, so it can be difficult for elderly people with walking disabilities. At the souvenir corner, I bought Mandel Tiegel, a confectionery produced by Kosuke Watanuki from Hontakasaya (it was delicious as it was served as a tea confectionery in the guest room).🔸RoomsThe guest rooms are standard type and are located in one of the three buildings that was built right after the war. A calm room with a view of the courtyard through the blinds. What sets it apart from other high-end ryokans is that it has a Western taste, rather than pure good old Japan, and is unique to Kobe (Arima Onsen is also in Kobe).🔸BathIt's a half-mixed bathing area, and when it's just my wife and I, we can have a conversation in each half of the bathing area, which is a unique feature that I haven't seen anywhere else.It is rare for Arima Onsen to use the ``direct source'' method. It seems that it is really difficult to provide this red hot spring water directly from the source, as the pipes that run the hot springs get clogged quickly.🔸MealOverall, the dinner was a good combination of Japanese and Western, just as the inn concept was.As mentioned in the owner's blog (note), the grilled fish takes a lot of time and effort, but you can tell the difference with just one bite. Simply put, the texture of the juicy meat and crispy skin is amazing. This mackerel was excellent.Kobe beef is called "Kobe beef" by all locals. Beef was originally a food custom that was started by foreigners who lived in Kobe, and it seems that they intentionally called it ``Kobe Beef'' out of respect for the fact that they used to call Kobe beef ``KOBE BEEF.'' .The sake is ``Kotsuzumi'' Junmai Namazake from Tanba, designed by Kosuke Watanuki. The highlight of the morning breakfast is boiled tofu made with Tamba black soybeans. It is placed in a special container kept warm with charcoal. I was grateful that I could drink my own coffee after the meal.

This place is a hidden gem if you are after traditional Japanese ryokan experience. As the oldest ozen hotel with 1000+ history which served several emperors in the past, you will be amazed by how well the maintenance has been kept. …
