I have travelled around Japan for quite a while searching for the best powder snow and accomadation. To Niseko, Rusutsu, Furano and Hakuba to name just a few. With no question about it, Base Camp the Lodge, situated in Myoko, provided me with the best snow experience to date, and I know for sure, it will be the only place I will return to for the remainder of my snowboarding days.To date, I have visited Myoko 3 times including my stay at Basecamp, January this year. I have stayed at different accomodation each time, but neither provided an experience like Basecamp. Here’s why:The lodge itself:The lodge is quite large and very spacious. I stayed in a queen room on my own, and was increadibly happy with the experience. The bed was comfortable, and the aesthetics of the room was also awesome. While having a western style bed, the lodge has retained a traditional Japanese experience by keeping the shoji screens and and Tatami mats. I had great privacy and the room was heated perfectly, adding to my personal comfort. I also had quite a nice view of the snow out of my window. The lodge had a table tennis table and a PlayStation. This kept the kids staying at the lodge occupied so their parents could relax. This was also on the lower floor, so the noise of the kids playing loudly was not heard, however easily accessible if something happened. The lodge had Netflix, surrounded by comfortable lounging for all. There was board games and also darts (darts for the adults). There is a fire place, with lounges to sit around and stay warm, and relax. It is also only metres away from the bar!The lodge also had its own Onsens, perfect for relaxing after a day out in the powder. For the people not willing to have an Onsen, there was 3 private showers on top of the 6 showers that are included in the Onsens. There was also heated Ski locker rooms, perfect to walk in after a day out. You could get changed, hang your ski gear up and go upstairs for a nice cold beer from the bar. There was also storage for your board or skiis. The toilet facilities were also good. They were nice and clean.Food and the Bar:Breakfast and dinner were on time and exceptional! The hospitality was perfect and the food was well presented and absolutely delicious. The waiters were well trained and very friendly. The dining room is spacious and the kitchen was very accomodating of my allergies. The bar had a wide variety to chose from, was responsible in their serving of alcohol, and were very friendly. Everything was also reasonably priced. The location:This season had some of the best snow that I have seen. In regards to Basecamp, the lodge is in close proximity to town (easy walking distance) and many ski resorts such as Akakura Kanko, Akakura Onsen, Suginohara, Seki Onsen and Ikenotara. It was also in easy driving distance to places such as Lotte Arai and Madarao to name a few. Paid lifts were also offered to all, with free of charge lifts to some of these closer locations. In town there is many restaurants and bars, however I preferred to stay in at Basecamp as they offered exceptional hospitality and service. The staff:Most importantly, the staff were amazing. As soon as I stepped in the door i was made to feel so welcome. The owner and manager were extremely friendly and accommodating. All staff, as well, including the kitchen, bar, and cleaning were just as great, providing me with the best experience yet.Overall, as mentioned, this was my greatest snow experience yet, and I will continue to return to Basecamp each season. If you are looking to stay in japan, Myoko is the place for powder, and Base Camp the Lodge is the place for accomodation without a doubt
