The accommodation exceeded my expectations, the inside of the building was very clean,The food was also very delicious.I am very grateful for the environment where there was no inconvenience even though it was deep in the mountains, and thank you for allowing me to spend my time very comfortably.

I always stop by on my way to Tokuzawa. We have gyudon at the restaurant, but the gyudon here is delicious and highly recommended! Because it was Shinshu beef, the taste was on a different level than the beef bowl chains. Considering the location and quality, 1,200 yen is not expensive.

I stayed here for 5 nights, felt so well taken care of by the entire staff, and loved everything about it.My week at Kamikochi was intended to be a slow and relaxing retreat in nature, and I am so glad that I picked this ryokan as it is situated some distance away from the busy and crowded Kappabashi, yet not so far away. To me, it’s a very enjoyable 40-minute walk in the forest from the bus station.Everyday I woke up to see the beautiful mountain Myojindake from my window. If I could get up at 5:30am, I would take a walk in the forest - it’s just magical in the early morning! The Myojin shrine and pond just minutes away is magical too.I also found the location quite convenient for exploring trails that start from the nearby Tokusawa and Yokoo. I don’t climb peaks but I enjoyed doing the lower parts of those trails.Every day when I came back from my walks, I would relax in the communal hot bath, which I loved so much! And this would be followed by a very delicious dinner (breakfast is equally amazing too).I have special dietary needs (gluten and dairy sensitivities, vegetarian/vacation-pescatarian). They took great care for me and I did not need to worry a thing about food.The room was petite and cozy, with tatami, futon, hot tea, and a very good heater (even with the daily power off from 9:30pm, the warmth lasted throughout the night for me, even when I left the windows open with a small gap). It was very comfortable. When I booked this place, I was a little worried about staying at a traditional ryokan and not a hotel with beds. I did not regret it and totally enjoyed this ryokan stay!I stayed at the annex and found the place to be super clean (I am a clean freak :-p). I noticed that they were doing some improvement work at the rooms level at the main building, so I believe the place will only become better!You can also order a simple packed lunch of onigiri and pickles when you go for longer walks. And the shop sells a range of food, snacks, drinks and some hiking essentials.I also liked to chill at the communal balcony. That is a place where you can see the stars at night if the sky is clear.Most importantly, the entire staff is amazing amazing amazing. So lovely, kind, and helpful. I would definitely love to stay at this place again if I do Kamikochi next time.

Located in a quiet area about an hour's walk from the center of Kamikochi, this inn is a well-balanced combination of an old mountain hut and an inn.The private room I used had the same exterior appearance, but the interior had just been renovated, and when I opened the brand new door, I was greeted with the smell of blue tatami and wood.There is also a dormitory (shared room with bunk beds) that is the same as the previous mountain hut.The bedding was clean with two sheets, the breakfast and dinner meals were delicious, and the bath was spacious and comfortable.Draft beer (small ¥500), cold sake (¥600)It was also cheap and delicious.

On the way to Tokuzawaen, we took a break with soft serve ice cream and affogato.The monkey also came.She's used to people and doesn't run away, but she keeps a safe distance from people and doesn't seem to be interested in what other people are eating nearby.I want this nature to continue forever if we follow good manners.

When I come to Myojin Pond, I usually eat soft serve ice cream here. When visiting Myojin Pond, it's a tradition to have soft serve ice cream here.

The breakfast and dinner set meals are delicious, and there are separate hot springs for men and women to soak in to relieve the fatigue after a long day of hiking. The location is very convenient, suitable for people who want to get up after 5 o'clock and go to Myojin Lake to enjoy the beautiful scenery~ The boss has good English and is very enthusiastic. He is a lover of photography and mountain scenery. My friends and I agree that the postcards made by the boss here are from Kamikochi. The most beautiful postcards. Later when I went to the post office, I would always send the boss’s works to my friends~

Stayed for the first time with 4 friends on 2024/8/4. Lower bed in shared room. I had made reservations since March. Last minute I looked, there were only 2 people left, but in reality there were more vacancies. The outside of the room window was not the outdoors, but was a passageway for employees, so ventilation was poor. The lights turn off at 9:30, so you need to charge them before then.When we had the rock fish for dinner, the person who served it said, ``If it were me, I'd just remove the head and bite into it,'' so I did just that. Bones are good because they turn into calcium. I will continue to do so in the future. For an inn in the mountains, the food was fulfilling.The structure of the building is complex, and the room we stayed in was on the second floor. The bath rises in the opposite direction from the landing of the stairs. The dining room is at the back of the first floor, going around to the right.After dinner, the innkeeper explained the photos on the wall. Everyone was seated at a table facing one direction, but I thought it was a precaution against the coronavirus, but it might have been to make it easier to see the photos.At night, my friend went outside to look at the stars, and I was about to follow him when he came back and said, ``There's a bear.'' I looked through the glass door and saw a dog-sized bear cub on the other side of the wooden table in front of the inn. It was my first time seeing a bear in the wild. I had seen many signs warning of bear sightings, but I was surprised to see it up close. The starry sky was covered in clouds and I could barely see it.The next morning, I went out for a walk and immediately encountered another bear. My friend who was leading the way told me that a bear was climbing a tree, so I looked up and saw something black. I left before I could get a proper look.There is free wifi. I paid in advance by credit card. The view of Mt. Myojin was good.

Nice little guest lodge near Myojin pond.It’s a 45min-1h walk in from Kamikochi bus terminal but if you want to enjoy Kamikochi slowly, stay a night here! If you have some time, take a 1h walk to Tokusawa lodge - the valley & mountain views from the midway point are gorgeous. I also walked 1h from Tokusawa to Yokoo Sanso but the views were mediocre.Staying at this lodge also means you can get to Myojin pond early where the soft morning glow and mist make the entire place magical!Many people also chose to stay here before/after their big hikes up the mountain.Dinner and breakfast were simple but delicious.Bathroom was available from 3-8pm, and had a small onsen. Decent enough!I stayed in the dorm room which was comfy too. Suggest some earplugs if you’re sensitive to noise and people tend get up early for hikes and you’d be able to hear their feet shuffle.Overall a great stay! Will be back!

When walking around Kamikochi, only use the shop and restaurant.Simple and delicious curry.For some reason, my child said that the miso soup was delicious.It's near the entrance to the mountain, so there are a lot of things for sale besides souvenirs.

I was very reluctant to stay here at first—given the fact that it’s an hour walk from the central visitor/bus center—but you can stow your luggage at the visitor center and walk light here.The check-in time is at 14:30 and the checkout time is at 8:30. Sure there’s a schedule for everything—rotating bath time for men and women and dinner at 18:30 and breakfast at 7:00–but it adds to the experience. The lights and power are out at 21:00 so be sure to come prepare.The hotel was pretty vacant in my stay—with just me and one other room—so that’s also a plus. You can also walk to Myojin Pond and have the whole place to yourself as I did at 6:00.The staff is also very willing to try to communicate with you in English. For those who are travelling solo, I had the best time of my life here.

When I ordered oyaki, the regular oyaki sold at the agricultural cooperative supermarket in the prefecture was served in a lentil format.I just put it on a plate with the plastic wrap still wrapped around it. That's a bit too disappointing...
