A group of seven of us came from Taiwan to Nagano to climb Omoteso Ginza Gundake. After descending the mountain, we planned to stay here for 2 days before climbing the Norikura Peaks. The environment is elegant, the room is clean, the owner is kind and friendly, and the food is delicious.

I had the opportunity to stay here overnight. The proprietress and her partner made it a warm and wonderful welcome. The property is nestled in Nagano within striking distance of the Norikura Visitor Center and the bus stations that ferry you up to Mt. Norikura. Exhausted from a day of hiking I opted for dinner and the following morning’s breakfast at the B&B. The meals were just right in quantity and had the variety and quality you would expect in Japan. The shared facilities (restroom, washroom, hot springs) were incredibly clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a “traditional” Japanese ryokan experience while being close to outdoor activities. The operators of the property were warm, friendly, and made me feel at home. Although my outdoor activities were abandoned due to inclement weather, I hope to return to the area again. If and when I do I will not hesitate staying here again.

I had connections to Kamikochi, Hirayu, and Okuhida Onsen, but I had never been to Norikura. I happened to see it at a Fiat Panda event, and for some reason I ended up staying there. There is a stuffed mascot sparrow next to the entrance. I saw the thunderbird version of this one at Unazuki Onsen, but I think the sparrow version is cute. The inn is run by a beautiful young woman who calls herself the landlady. She also has a registered dietitian qualification. It seems that not much time has passed since he took over the inn from his predecessor. On the weekends, our manager Toshi (who is quite good at playing the guitar) also comes to support us.In fact, the food is good both in the morning and in the evening. The rice is delicious. Miso soup is delicious. The side dishes are delicious. Colorful and well balanced. We also have fair trade coffee beans. I was wondering why, but when I heard that both of them had experience as Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, it made sense. There was no bathroom in the room and it was shared, but it was close by so it was good. The inn's WiFi is securely connected inside the hotel. The hot springs are tasteless and odorless hypotonic springs. Families will be happy because you can take the time to use a private bath in each room.If the refreshing hot water is not enough for you, there is also a day trip bathing facility with cloudy hydrogen sulfide nearby, so it might be fun to enjoy both.

Looking for a warm & truly local experience? Look no further, Yagura is here!I had the privilege of staying at Yagura for one night. Tomoko-san, Toshiharu-san & friends were truly welcoming & we spent the night chatting and singing as I got to know them more. In the morning, they even graciously offered to drive me up the mountains where we hiked to the nearby Sanbontaki waterfalls together! While I initially thought there would be limited interactions during my stay, I was received with warm hospitality, heartening interactions, sumptuous meals, cozy room with a wonderful view, and walked away with the highlight of my trip!Would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay for the warm interactions & local experience. There are many activities to do nearby as well - be it climbing Mt Norikura, trekking through the autumn scenery, winter skiing, or mountain biking. Fret not if language is a concern - I understand that Tomoko-san can converse in English & Spanish. The cute Sparrow mascot named 'Rikachu' is definitely worth seeing in person too :)Thanks for having me at Yagura!

The friendly hostess will provide you with a comfortable stay.I spent two nights there on a workday, and I was able to work in a nice environment where I could hear the chirping of wild birds. Also worth noting is the natural hot spring that warms you to the core♨️ and the delicious homemade food prepared by the landlady. After the meal, we enjoyed some fair trade coffee☕️ from Costa Rica, where the proprietress lived when she was young. This is a recommended accommodation.
