I found this resident on Airbnb site. Kisten— the host gave great recommendations, communicated well in English, and could also speak Japanese. The accommodation was beautiful, quiet, and offered an incredible view of the night sky, with lots of stars visible. Inside the room, it felt cozy, warm, and clean, with all the necessary amenities. The bathroom was clean, although the water heater wasn’t working that day, but it wasn’t a problem for us. The house is located in a mango orchard on a hillside, with easy access through Google Maps. If there are any issues, you can reach out to Kisten, and she responds very quickly. She’ll soon be opening another accommodation next door, a house for families that can host up to 6 people. I had a look inside, and it’s really beautiful. I’ll definitely come back to stay again. Please send my regards to Frankie, the dog! Even though he likes to bark when greeting guests, he’s very friendly and sweet. When I was about to check out, he waited outside my room and barked to let Kisten know that I was ready to leave—haha.

The location is wonderful, and the warm hospitality of the owners and their families will soothe your soul! You can have a BBQ or play outside just by staying here, and there are many tourist attractions nearby such as Churaumi Aquarium! In addition to kitchen appliances and tableware, there is also a washing machine and clothes dryer, so you can cook for yourself and play at the beach without worrying. It's already my second time here, but I'll definitely come back again, it's a wonderful cottage!

The Phumula Guest Cottage is extraordinary and absolutely wonderful. We don't say that lightly, having stayed in many guest cottages, airbnb's, hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts -- around the world. Kirsten and Shiro are the most gracious and kind hosts you'll ever find and they have thought of absolutely everything in designing and outfitting the guest cottage on their mango farm. The farm is up on a small mountain in the forest. It was such a joy to have night-time quiet and to once again see stars at night and hear crickets! We live in a very big city so don't get to experience those things. But while the cottage is peaceful and quiet with everything we could ever need -- you're not far from the town of Motobu and from the city of Nago (15 minute drive), where there are numerous good restaurants and plenty of places for groceries and supplies. It's helpful to have a rental car and there is free parking right next to the cottage. We had never been to Okinawa -- or even Japan, so didn't know what to expect. But we had read that Okinawa is beautiful and that there are nice hikes and good limestone rock climbing. The Phumula Guest cottage is in the middle of it all -- near Mt. Katsu (Katsuyama) and also close to much of the best climbing (found on Mountain Project). We loved the Mt. Awadake loop hike which is also very close by! Kirsten and Shiro are a wealth of information and we were able to learn a great deal about Okinawa and the local area. They also give a very interesting tour of the farm and explanation of all that goes into farming in Japan. We were so happy with everything we could have (and wanted to) stay for months! A great, relaxing retreat - a place to unwind and enjoy beautiful surroundings and nature, all while staying in an extremely comfortable, well-designed, outfitted-with-everything place!!!!
