We had a great stay here! As pointed out by other reviews, the facilities here are a little old. But the room was comfortable and clean. And the staff here were very welcoming and sweet. They were extremely accommodating to us despite us not knowing Japanese. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious! And of course we really enjoyed the in-room onsen. It was nice to be able to shower and get a quick soak without having to leave our room. They also gave you a small bag of local rice if you stay at least 2 nights. The rice here is pretty delicious so we definitely appreciate this!

We had a great experience at this ryokan! It was a bit larger and more "commercial" than I realized, but still very pleasant, and the in-room onsen was both enjoyable and convenient. All the meals were delicious, though my preference/favorite was the yakiniku night. And the staff was friendly.

Our stay at this ryokan was a highlight of our trip. The kaiseki meals were amazing. Having a private semi-open onsen was a nice luxury. We soaked every evening and every morning.

The special thing about the rooms other than the private onsen is the decorated toilet area, which is decorated to have a tiny japanese garden in it. …

The hot spring resort we stayed this time was in the south of the Volcano, the Minami Aso village. “Minami” means “the south” in Japanese. …
