I had high expectations because of the good reviews, but it was a really disappointing trip.Even though they are separated, the buildings are connected, so I was worried about the noise from the side and couldn't get a good rest.Also, during the room tour and dinner, you will hear the owner's proud stories forever, and at breakfast, your mother will come and tell you her proud stories as well.Meals were served in the hearth, so it wasn't particularly impressive...the rice and miso soup were cold from the beginning, and overall it was a very disappointing stay.

My family used it. The proprietress and her son have such wonderful personalities! Children and adults were very satisfied with the hot springs, rooms, food, being surrounded by nature, and being able to interact with nature as there were mountains and rivers nearby! I will stay again! thank you very much.

This is my first experience of a Japanese style Inn (Ryokan), and I am so glad that I visited Ryokan Asono Yamaboushi!It was a rainy day during my visit, but with a rental car I arrived at the Ryokan without much trouble.The host greet us with a warm welcome, and gave us a detailed room tour.We picked a semi western-style room, meaning that the bed is western style, but everything else is pretty much Japanese style.We are amazed by the Japanese architecture, interior design, and the private baths (Onsen). There are an outdoor Onsen heated by wood (and hence closed at around 9pm), and an indoor Onsen to be used anytime.Outdoor onsen is quite hot as it is heated by wood, it can only fit one person. Indoor onsen is just the right temperature, and it can fit around two people comfortably.Dinner and breakfast are served in the main building's dining area.Their signature dinner is 炭火焼, which roughly translated to charcoal Barbecue. Ingredients are fresh, and food is amazingly delicious. They also serve (sold separately) their homemade Sake, and fresh fish (grilled).Breakfast is equally amazing Japanese style breakfast, also with fresh ingredient and beautifully arranged.The hosts (family) are very warm and friendly, they tried their best to chat with us despite the language barrier. They made sure that we had a wonderful experience in the Ryokan.Unfortunately it was so rainy that day, we did not get to explore the surrounding, but we look forward to another visit already!Overall, we highly recommended this Ryokan to anyone who would drive, and would like to experience an authentic Japanese Ryokan.

A delicious dinner with a nice atmosphere and lovely staff. It was a very soothing time and space 😊 It's a place I want to go to again. Of course, the facility itself is amazing, but best of all, it is run by a wonderful landlady and her son. We had a great time and it was a great memory for my wife and I on our 1st wedding anniversary! I will definitely go again!

This Ryokan is without a doubt our best experience in Japan. A splendid inn with antique furniture, rooms full of charm where nothing is missing. The private indoor and outdoor rotenboros, along with the dinner around the irori, are the moments that enhance this experience. The hosts (brother and sister) are very attentive and as refined as the house in which they host.

There is a wonderful stone bath in the room and an open-air Goemon bath. The food is delicious and the customer service is warm. It was very relaxing.

The room was very clean and well cleaned.When I made the reservation, there was a mistake and I wanted to stay as cheaply as possible, so I used the points from the reservation site and asked for something quite complicated, but the hotel and the host were so wonderful that I was embarrassed to have to do that. It was your response.They are very particular about the food, and the yamame trout were really delicious and cooked to perfection, so we ordered as many more as our children wanted, and they prepared them each time without making a negative face. .The bath was heated with firewood, and I took a bath with the nice scent of firewood.The futon on the bed was soft and fluffy, and the child's eyes were sparkling in the stylish room.It's not a cheap price, but it's way too cheap for this quality! It was such a wonderful inn.This is an inn where I would like to stay again!

My husband and I used this on our first trip to Aso.I reserved a room in a separate one-story annex.I had received some information in advance, but it was a wonderful inn that easily exceeded all of them.Best of all, the inn and the people made me feel at home and I had a relaxing time that felt like I was back in my own country.

2023.05It's a wonderful accommodation.I've stayed here and there, but this place is in my top 3.I was healed by the feeling of hospitality...My heart was cleansed.The room, bathroom, food, and customer service are great.There is no end to what I can write.I also end up taking too many photos.Please come and see us.It's a place you want to feel.The price is not too high, but it's not cheap either.Since the room is being renovated, I think the price will be even more expensive.In that case...I want to take a break from my monthly trips and come back to Yamaboushi.Anyway, I want to come again.thank you very much!Thank you so much!

This is my second stay here. I was staying with a nursing baby. I told them in advance that I was having a baby, and when I called with other requirements, they said they could provide a baby chair and baby bath, which was very helpful and saved me a lot of luggage. They were very considerate when it came to meals, which was helpful. When my husband and I stayed there for the first time two years ago, we definitely wanted to come again, so I'm glad we were able to come. The food is very delicious, and the manager, proprietress, and everyone else at the restaurant have a very warm and kind atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable.I love talking to them about various things, and I want to come back again. I'm glad I was able to find such a wonderful ryokan in the prefecture. Thank you very much.

In February, 3 generations stayed in a room called "Rindo" for one night. It is a two-story building with a kotatsu, a table, and a room that can sleep 5 adults and 4 children, as well as a large TV (with NETFLIX), a beer server, and alcohol, which I learned as a surprise on the day because there are no photos on the website. There was even a common room with a refrigerator stocked with a variety of soft drinks. There were 5 air conditioners, a fan heater in the living room, and a mini heater in the dressing room, so my elderly parents didn't feel cold at all.The atmosphere of the dinner restaurant was nice, and I was very satisfied with the quality of the ingredients in both the meat and vegetables. The kids had curry, but there was enough food for the adults to share as well.I was also impressed by the in-room sauna, open-air bath, indoor bath, and Goemon bath. It was said that everything was heated with firewood. Unfortunately, it rained on the day I stayed, but on sunny days you can open the roof of the open-air bath and see a beautiful starry sky.The male manager was kind and courteous from the moment we made the reservation, and the landlady also had a warm personality and welcomed us the next morning, so the whole family had a great time. Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality.I would definitely like to come back in the summer to see the fireflies, play in the river, and see the starry sky that I missed this time.

We used it for the second night of our honeymoon.Room type HananobuThe food at this hostel was extremely delicious.Beef tongue, homemade rice, homemade miso that many customers have requested for sale, eggs from Karasu chicken, which is lucky if they don't lay eggs every day, freshly made salt-grilled mountain fish grilled on the hearth right in front of you, and Japanese sake. Rice/Amazake pudding etc...Overall it was delicious, but the items I just mentioned were especially delicious.The miso and wild fish were exquisite.I ate Yamameo three times on this trip, but Yamaboushi's was on a different level.As for the baths, the indoor bath with cut stone and the open-air bath were Goemon baths.The indoor bath is a little small and the Goemon bath can only be used at night.However, this was my favorite accommodation on this trip.I talked with the landlady about various things, and I felt that she had a nice personality and the location was very natural.It's not easy to go there because it's far away, but my wife and I have talked about wanting to go again while the landlady is still working.I will never forget how the landlady and her son showed up until they were out of sight as we drove home.I will definitely go again.

Although it is an old Japanese-style inn, they apparently built a new sauna this year, so I was able to enjoy the sauna in Aso. Maybe things will get better quickly.The open-air bath has a Goemon bath, and the indoor bath also has large windows.The separate rooms were also spacious, and the old Japanese house I stayed in was very spacious with two floors and a large table.

I came across this place by chance during a trip around Kyushu.It was a sudden reservation on the same day, but my son was kind and polite.It was an old private house relocated and the room had a nice atmosphere. In the room, there were many amenities that women would be happy to have, such as welcome drinks such as beer and alcohol service, and hair dryers that were refa.We had a relaxing meal surrounded by the hearth.I went to several restaurants on this trip to Kyushu, but the Yamame was the most delicious.The meat was also of very high quality.Also, the moment I opened the landlady's doburoku, I could clearly see the live bacteria in it, and it had a sweet taste that even I, who don't like alcohol, ended up drinking a lot.This is a warm inn run by a family, and the hospitality was wonderful.It was an inn that I would definitely like to visit again.
