I visited in mid-September. It was a 3-day weekend, but it wasn't too crowded. It was very cold in the morning, and an air storm had formed on the surface of the lake early in the morning. This is a popular place for people who enjoy canoeing.

I'm sorry that this is not the case here. The ``Yamada Onsen Y.H.'' that used to exist on the shore of the nearby lake left an impression on me.When I looked at the lake from the pier early in the morning, I was moved by the reflection of the surrounding mountains in the waveless water.

It took 3 hours to arrive using the expressway and local roads.Since we were driving at night, the road was a paradise for wild animals.I drove carefully.Arrive at the campsite and sleep in the car in the parking lot.We waited until it got bright the next morning, prepared our kayaks, and enjoyed the mirror-like surface of the lake to our satisfaction. And then it takes 3 hours to get back home.I think this lake is well worth it.If you have a kayak or canoe, please come by.

It was a typical campsite with a view of the starry sky and the mysterious surface of the lake. It's been quite a while now, but back then detergents were prohibited (apparently it was inside a national park), but what is the situation like now?As others have written, it is literally pitch black after 8 o'clock.Depending on the movement of the moon, it will be a real dark night, so lights, etc., including spares, are essential. If I recall correctly, there was a free open-air hot spring (mixed bathing) near the campsite.I don't know if it still exists. If you go north on Route 85 in front of you, there is an inn called Yamada Onsen, and you should have been able to take a bath there, but you need to check if it is still open.

I went to see the estuary on the north shore of Lake Shikaribetsu and the volcanoes on the south side across the lake.It is said that a river was dammed by a group of volcanoes and turned into a lake. It appears to be a naturally formed dam lake.I thought this was a rare formation, as many caldera lakes and lakes along the coast can be seen.

Used in mid-September.The manager said, ``This is an inconvenient campsite, but is it okay? ”It's totally OK.There are fairly clean toilets and a kitchen, which is very nice.At night, all the lights are off and the only sound is the sound of the campfires around you.Perhaps because it was inconvenient, it was even better that there were no groups of people with bad manners making noise until late at night.I was asleep at 10pm.There were about 10 tents up there, but the only person who didn't know anything was a motorcyclist who came after the manager left and set up his tent in the dark. (I left early in the morning before the manager came.) It's wonderful. All garbage must be taken home. There was only a charcoal dump.Due to the high altitude, it gets quite cold at night. It's mid-September and the weather is nice, but my breath is white. (The online weather forecast said it would be at least 19 degrees Celsius, but it may have dropped to single digits)Unfortunately, I couldn't see the starry sky because it was cloudy.I will be using this again.
