This was my second stay at Tamonkan. We rarely return to the same hotel, even if we had a good experience, but we’d happily come back to Tamonkan every year! This time, we rented a car, which made it even more convenient to explore the beautiful mountains and nearby cities. Tamonkan also offers free parking right across from the inn.The owners are incredibly kind and are always happy to provide information and recommendations for local attractions and shops where you can buy regional products. And, of course, the breakfast and dinner are super healthy, fresh, and delicious. The room is clean and comes with a private sink but be aware that there’s no air conditioning. Personally, it wasn’t an issue for me, as two fans were provided in the room and kept things comfortable. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, and although the ryokan was fully booked on some nights, it was always quiet and relaxing. I never had to share the spacious, comfortable bath and shower room with any other guests. I really enjoyed my stay and felt truly relaxed. See you again next year!

I had a lovely stay at Tamonkan, to top off a great week travelling beautiful Tohoku. The hosts were so kind (including letting me use the shower after I’d checked out and been soaked climbing Mt Haguro!). The food was delicious and affordable, and the accommodation clean and comfortable.I’d highly recommend Tamonkan to anyone wanting to visit Dewa Sanzan. Thank you for a great stay!

A superb traditional inn with lovely owners. Really great and local meals. We had a superb room with a sort of little reading corner attached to a window overlooking the outside. There is also a kind of hot bath/sento in the bathroom. It was magical to immerse yourself in it after each hike. For these kinds of moments I highly recommend!

Small traditional Japanese hotel, in a quiet location and 15 minutes walk from the bus stop and the entrance to Mount Hagura Park. The owner is very nice and the meals are very pleasant in a typical Japanese atmosphere.

That was good. Facilities are old but clean. The food and host's hospitality were both good. I haven't experienced a lodging like this since Mt. Koya. I want to go again.
