This is a representative inn (hatago) in Shimosuwa-juku. With over 300 years of tradition, it is the oldest inn in Shimosuwa-juku. It is said that people such as Ikku Jugensha and Hiroshige Ando stayed here.

This inn originally served as the main branch of Shimosuwa-juku.It is one of the few remaining inns and is extremely valuable. It is also the starting point of the Koshu Highway. There is no Wi-Fi or anything to make your stay comfortable, but the good thing about this inn is that it doesn't have anything like that.Basic amenities are provided. (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, toothbrush, yukata)The bath was a hot spring. It felt so good.Dinner and breakfast were also delicious. The dishes were made with locally sourced ingredients such as smelt from Lake Suwa. The friendly landlady takes very good care of us.I was traveling by bicycle (road bike) on the Nakasendo route (Kyoto - Nihonbashi, Tokyo) this time, and I was allowed to leave my road bike in the entrance.I was very grateful. We will use you again the next time we travel on the Koshu Kaido road.

The building and facilities are old, but I was able to relax in the quaint space, with hallways so shiny you could slip on them and wild flower arrangements casually placed here and there. You can enjoy delicious local foods such as horse sashimi, smelt, and vegetables, and above all, the hot springs are great. The water is a bit hot, but you don't need lotion. I think it's true because my friend who has atopic dermatitis was happy with it.It was a relaxing inn typical of Shimosuwa.

The food was quite delicious. The hot spring water is also as hot as you like. The staff at the inn were worried about the lack of facilities, but I guess that's what a historic inn should be like.(If there was something I wanted to chill, I was able to leave it there as there was no refrigerator in the room.)

We can also accommodate parties for several people, so we use it for dinner and lodging when relatives come to visit. The food was very delicious, from the tamagoyaki that was on the appetizer to the fried soba noodles, the stir-fried soup, and the horse sashimi.I'm always humbled by the lack of facilities, but I love the historic inn and the atmosphere. The proprietress is a talkative and funny person, which is probably why she's famous.

This is one of the inns that still remains at Shimosuwa-juku, where the large procession of brides stayed during Kazunomiya's wedding.

I think this is a great historical inn for history buffs to stay at. The food used plenty of local ingredients and was very satisfying. The hallway floor was so polished that I almost slipped (lol)Spring quality (sodium/calcium/chloride sulfate spring, colorless and odorless, cotton hot water, colorless and transparent, fairly hot, free-flowing water)
