Kawahiro provides a practical base for skiing or snowboarding, located slightly away from the bus stop, but right next to the slopes and ski lifts. The rooms are spacious. Toilets are shared, and separately, the showers are located in the onsen area, which is also communal. Breakfast is excellent, and opting for dinner there is well worth it for a tasty meal.

This was a great spot for our family ski holiday. Great location with its own drying room for gear. The host is so kind. We loved the served breakfasts - lots of food and a chance to try new things. There is a coin operated washer and drier. While we were there, the Onsen was nearly always empty. The futon mattresses were comfy after a long day on the mountain. The establishment, including the shared bathroom, were always spotless

My partner and I stayed here for 6 nights in February and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was very traditional accomodation so if you are wanting something more western this isn’t for you however we really enjoyed the experience. …

The location of this inn is probably the best in the whole of Nazawaonsen because it is just behind the main ski Center and beside it is the ski rental. So you do not have to wear the uncomfortable snow boots to walk a long distance. It is probably 1 minute walk to either location. The owner is well versed in English and is very friendly. That is a plus point.Breakfast is acceptable but nothing to rave about. Service during breakfast is fantastic as well. The one thing I can’t really live with is attached bathroom. There is no toilet within your room. Everything is shared in common spaces along the corridor. And there are only two toilets and a urinal per level which makes it crowded during peak timing like after breakfast. The main bathing is the onsen room at level 1 which is way too small for the whole inn. There are only 4 bathing taps.

I had lunch at Mr. Kawahiro's restaurant at the inn. I ordered a katsudon, but the taste was very weak, and as you can see from the photo, there was very little egg, and it wasn't cooked properly, and the onions were almost raw, so I think it was definitely a failure. It feels like 1400 yen is a little bit. It has no taste and the onions are too raw! I regretted saying that right then and there. The staff at the restaurant are very curt, probably because they cater to overseas customers, so I don't think there's any need to go out of your way to eat here. For payment, you can use PayPay in addition to cash.

This was the perfect, cozy place to stay. Very conveniently located for access to the snow fields, snow gear rental, local food, and onsens. Has its own gender separated onsens, which were easy to access and quite private if need be. The couple who run the place were so lovely (with very good English). They cooked a delicious breakfast each morning, offered us good suggestions for food and attractions, even offered us a lift to the local train station and a trip free of charge out to see the canola fields. We absolutely plan on staying here again.
