A beautiful place in the middle of the forest. Cool air is a relief after the heat of the city. And the mountains in the area are a perfect place for fun outings.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a holiday in Nagano region of Japan and our absolute favourite place was Omachi, staying at Momiji Lodges. As Australians with no Japanese speaking ability, it would often be time consuming to try to converse in Japanese through Google translate. Having Kim provide us with recommendations on where to go and how to get there was an absolute godsend. We saw plenty of wildlife, beautiful scenery and had an "epic" time (to quote Kim) :-)

You don't need to be a skier or a trekker to come to this place and have an amazing time. Kim and Machiko did everything possible to ensure that we had a fantastic visit - from picking us up at the train station, driving us to the start of the Kurobe Alpine Route, taking us to a temple one evening to catch a live performance, and trips to the supermarket, a great little Japanese restaurant and more. Snow monkeys greeted us every morning from the house (a large troops apparently lives nearby and they pass through the property). The house is a beautiful mountain chalet surrounded by trees, and the room was more than adequate (though you have access to the living area and kitchen/dining room, too). Everything was immaculately clean. The onsen at the end of the day was heavenly. This place was literally the highlight of our month-long trip through Japan. Next time, we'd make a point of returning just to stay here again. Wonderful hosts - thank you!

Absolutely great hosts, so generous with their time, they drove us to the trailhead and to restaurants. There is a private onsen, and the futons are very comfy. Lovely stay!

They responded kindly. Even though I didn't have a kitchen, I was able to cook rainbow trout for myself.

Kim and Machiko were the most wonderful hosts! We were able to use both cottages for our group of 7 and had the best time! Kim drove us to and from the snow each day and to dinner as well. …

What is there to say about Kim and Machiko that hasn't already been said? They are spectacular hosts. I was the only guest at their lodge during my stay and Kim and Machiko provided me with everything I needed and more. …
