Nice little hotel with very friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. The location is great. There is a star deduction because there is no air conditioning and it gets warm despite the fan

For a little break at the Steinhuder Meer we booked a room at the Maris Hotel. The building is a restored villa from the 19th century and the old building charm is visible as soon as you enter. Dark wood, high ceilings and a creaky staircase that leads to the upper floor of the building. The walls of the entire hotel are decorated with abstract pictures, which almost has the feel of an exhibition. Our room was spartan but completely adequately furnished. A double bed, desk, wardrobe, TV, fridge, safe, kettle and two small armchairs. We would describe it as a solid standard. The small bathroom seemed to be getting old, but served its purpose. The water pressure that came out of the shower head was similar to that of a Kärcher high-pressure cleaner. You have to like it - we found it impressive 😀 . The room was clean, with a few minor drawbacks. The staff was always approachable and very nice. Wishes, such as a second pillow, were immediately fulfilled. We only found the price for a bottle of Gerolsteiner mineral water (0.75l) to be too expensive at €4. But Lidl & Co. are within walking distance to stock up on a few drinks. We found the breakfast buffet to be of a solid standard with room for improvement. The baked rolls didn't particularly bother us, especially since they were a bit dry and tough if you're not an early riser and want to have breakfast at 7 or 8 a.m. Fresh baked goods would of course be nice, but we think that's manageable. The biggest advantage of the Hotel Maris is its central location right at the center of holiday activity and the water.Overall, we were satisfied with our stay and will definitely come back again. That's why we give it 4 benevolent stars, especially for the friendliness of the staff and the top location. To the nice receptionist from the evening shift: Tapas were semi-good, but the recommended long drink at the beach bar was very good! 😂

We spent three nights at the Hotel Maris over Easter and unfortunately for us it was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The only positive thing first: the free parking spaces. We had booked a double room with a "sea view" and got it on the 1st floor - the view itself was quite nice, but the windows were so dirty that we wondered when they had last been cleaned. Despite the fly screen, there were tons of dead insects in the window frame. The room itself was a good size for us as a family with a small child, but the bathroom was a disaster, long and narrow and, like the room, very worn out. Furthermore, we had no hot water, we addressed this directly on Good Friday and it was taken care of. Afterwards there was hot water, but only if you let the water run for minutes beforehand, not reasonable with a small child. The bed always cracked so loudly that we feared it might collapse. The pillows were also just an illusion; lying on them felt as if there were no pillows at all. The cloakroom area in the room is lit with only a small built-in spotlight, far too dark to be able to see our clothes, especially when they are dark. There is only one room key, which you use to lock your normal room door. Everything was very noisy. The breakfast was just okay for us, more selection of fruit and vegetables, fresh bakery rolls, a little more cold cuts would have been nice and, above all, larger plates, the small ones couldn't be put on anything as a family. At Easter there could have been a little something special like cake or something similar. Unfortunately the staff was very unfriendly, only the lady who was on duty on Good Friday was very nice and accommodating. Even at the checkout on Easter Sunday there were no nice farewell greetings and you were ignored after handing over the keys. We paid €552 for the three nights, which I find to be absolutely overpriced for what is on offer. At this price we are used to other hotel standards, even during holiday periods. Therefore we cannot recommend this hotel, we will not come back.
