Very nice and clean Hotel very Comfortable too.

The hotel is located on Prenzlauer Berg. Within walking distance of bars and restaurants (Kollwitzstrasse). 15 minutes walk from Alexanderplatz.

In October 2023 I was accommodated on the 3rd floor in a single room (number 21). There were 10 rooms on the floor, a unisex bathroom with 3 sinks next to each other and 2 showers, 1 separate toilet for everyone, 1 separate toilet at the front entrance for men. I had the room right next to the entrance door to the hallway, which always has a hard time locking at night when someone enters or leaves the floor, which happens quite often. In my opinion, the accommodation is not a hotel, as the name suggests, but rather a guesthouse/youth hostel, perhaps it was once a dormitory. The reception is only open until 6 p.m. every day, there is no elevator, no kitchenette, nothing, the rooms have no refrigerator, no bathroom and no sinks in the room, you always have to go to the unisex shared bathroom. It had 3 sinks next to each other, see photo, and 2 showers. The door to the hallway is usually open so that anyone passing by has a clear view of the sinks. There are no soap or paper towels at the sinks, you have to bring your own. And when you leave the room, don't forget to take your key card with you, because the door closes automatically and the reception is unmanned after 6 p.m., so it's stupid if you make a mistake at night. What also really bothered me was that the toilet at the entrance, which was closest to my room, was only intended for men, see photo. The second toilet on the floor, which women could also use, was at the very end of the hallway, quite a walk away. On the way there you passed a room in which two men lived, who always had the door open in the evening, sat on their beds with their upper bodies bare and stared into the hallway and watched you as you walked towards the toilet. It was like in a movie and really unpleasant. In addition, the toilet only had cold water for washing hands.I am in Berlin very often, so I know many different accommodations and in my opinion the price/performance ratio is not right here. I booked Hotel Avalex at short notice when my travel plans changed, but I would recommend anyone to look for somewhere else in this price range. Or rather, pay a little more and have a room with a bathroom or at least your own sink. The advantage of Avalex is the location, which is a sure-fire success + the high demand in Berlin. This is how they get their rooms rented out. I liked the quiet location in the back building and the modernly furnished room.I was there for 3 nights and on the last evening, when I came back to the hotel around 9:30 p.m., my keycard no longer worked, it was deactivated, the reception was of course unmanned, I then got help via the emergency number, but on this experience I would really have liked to have given up.On the day of departure I wanted to leave my luggage at reception until 5:30 p.m., but the lady said she would finish work at 4 p.m. so I had to take my luggage with me. My conclusion: stay away from this accommodation! Berlin offers enough alternatives.

Very uncomplicated. Simple and clean rooms. Location is great

If unhelpful and rude staff is what you are looking for, this is the place! There must be better places for this price in Berlin.

It’s good for the price

The rooms and sanitary facilities are clean, BUT:1. The mattress was so thin that the entire bed was as hard as a board, making it impossible to sleep comfortably. 2 sockets in the whole room (not enough), all devices unplugged - I had to crawl under the desk first.2. When I got there, I had already been traveling all day and my smartphone was empty due to the length of the trip - I had announced a later check-in and had it confirmed, but when I got there there was NO ONE there - it was Nobody opened the door, I couldn't be reached by phone and I was standing in the dark in the middle of Berlin in the evening. I then went to the kebab shop next door to charge my phone (at least for a few percent charge) and discovered that I had received data for the automatic check-in LATE AFTERNOON - far too late, something like that should have been sent the day before! Personally, I find the check-in system terrible: I don't like downloading an app to get to my room, especially since it didn't work right away!3. I give 1 star for cleanliness and 1 for central location.Personally, I won't book there again.

Rooms good, they could be cleaner but like everyone else... good location, less than ten minutes walk away is Alexander Platz, a great kebab at the door and services nearby.The door could be better marked since it is almost indistinguishable but I was very comfortable there.Shared bathrooms but quite clean, when I was there they had some bathrooms under construction.

Incredible value for money. A perfect basic hotel. We found a couple of nice breakfast cafes nearby. Walking distance to the center and also to wonderful Kastanienalle with its restaurants.

You get exactly what you pay for. The shared bathrooms are generally clean, the hairdryers could use an upgrade. Located only 15 minutes walking distance from Alexanderplatz, the railway station is basically at the doorstep. Friendly hosts.
