If not for the landlords behavior I would give this airless basement apartment a 2. After my no refunds reservation, I get an email saying I must call him when I am at the door. I emailed him 3 times saying I could not call without wifi ( SIM card dead) Just give me the lock box code. No reply. I called him from Hamburg station. I am 20 minutes away. He refused to give me the code. Finally I am at the door trying to get a local to call for me. No answer. Then a text saying ok. Call me now. Then no answer again. Another local calls him and he gives a complete stranger the door code. Lock box 4 1978. I finally got an email from him and it was just a . DO NOT STAY HERE. Read the other reviews about this landlords strange behavior.

definitely overrated, the hotel is just badly managed, the rooms and halls are super cold, there’s questionable decor everywhere and the bathrooms is shared only (this is fine tho cause we knew that since the reservation)

Would have been 5 stars except smoking is allowed inside! Woke up to a very unpleasant surprise one morning from smoke in the corridor. Otherwise had enjoyable stay. There are 3 spacious and well-furnished rooms, kitchen, washing machine for laundry (complimentary) and small but well-equipped kitchenette. No other guests while we were there. Wifi was good. Did not see the landlord at all. Supermarket and train station very close.

The host was very nice and took good care of us. It's only a four-minute walk to the train station and there are many shopping opportunities nearby. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend the accommodation.

Merten's accommodation on the quiet Brauhausstieg Street is an absolute top recommendation! Very nice, spacious rooms, all designed slightly differently, modernly furnished, friendly, tasteful color scheme. The whole house is sparkling clean, stylish and individual, with confident taste, a delight for the eye and a source of well-being. Modern, clean sanitary facilities, also applies to the kitchen units. Everything you need is there. Location great! Shops around the corner, transport connections to the center are perfect. Price-performance ratio is simply great!Mr. Mertens is a cool guy, friendly, likeable, open-minded, helpful. Always on site with nice conversations.I will always come back and recommend this great location to everyone.

I had a room on the ground floor facing the street. The entire wall of the room was made of glass blocks, not all of which were opaque. So the heavy curtain had to remain permanently closed and you sat in a dark, noisy hole with no windows. The bed creaked and the mattress was sagging. It's outrageous to rent something like that for €70 a night. The landlord is also cheeky. Never again!
