Very beautiful beach, tried to pitch a tent but was told that even as a member of the DJH, a simple tent costs 27 EUR per night plus local tourist tax. Seems pretty steep....

We wanted to stay in this historical building. However, it was super expensive, the food wasn’t the best, and the people on reception were borderline rude. The room was clean and we are glad we stayed but wouldn’t come backAlso, you have to pay for a towel when it cost €90 each/per night to stay 😳 PS There’s nowhere close by to eat unless you go to, for example, Binz

As a Canadian family of four, this was our first stop in Germany. The hostel was full to capacity with German families on holiday. …

Very nice place to stay as family, group or class. Rooms are comfy and the view from the upper floors is nice. You can rent everything! So if you forgot games or balls, no problem! Staff is very friendly and the food is good too! Worth a stay!

We were a group of 8 quiet, responsible adults. We stayed at Jugendherberge Prora during the high-season, but had no problems. It is a wonderful hostel and I recommend it highly. …

A competitive price for a night in the Youth Hostel with breakfast included. The place has been renovated not long ago and still looks good but the rooms and corridors feel very cold and do not provide a cosy atmosphere. …

The history of this place us enough to get you to visit, brilliant youth hostel with all that entails, 2mins walk from the beach, all rooms have a sea view, well they did when the building was constructed in the 1930's, however, now there …

The hostel itself is in a World War II building built by order of Adolf Hitler, in hopes of making a large vacation complex for Nazi families. The war broke out, however, and this reality never came to fruition.  …

Well I should have known what to expect. I arrived on a Thursday and there were many young school groups. It was was living a real life nightmare. Kids screaming, running around at high speeds and slamming doors and destroying the bathrooms. All the school groups checked out on Friday so the weekend was like heaven and very quite. They kept everyone in my room, and there are some very strange people hiking around Rugen. Not all of them but most people in my room were a bit special. The food is also what you expect, everything is stragiht out of a package and you kind of have to search out a veggie. Lots of chemicals in the food but there is nothing around and it does the job for a few days. The room was spacious, but the bathroom is miles away. but they did a good job of keeping them clean. The bikes were only 6 euros a day which is a great deal. If you can find one that works. 2 mins and you are on the beach and you pretty much have it to yourself which is great advantage. But at the end of the day for a few euros more it would be possible to find a house to rent so that you did not have to deal with the small stresses. oh and wifi you had to pay for. I couldnt believe it!

As others have mentioned, the check-in process is quite bureaucratic; I couldn't check in until the checkout time had ended, even though there was a vast empty field for me to put up my tent in! Thankfully they let me put it up in advance and check in later. Breakfast is included (as a matter of fact you cannot refuse it), and while the dessert was fairly good, their ham is an otherworldly experience, and I do *not* mean that kindly! The showers and toilets work with an annoying card system and are the barest of their kind that I've ever seen -- worth a sight-seeing tour by themselves (the card is the only modern thing about them). Now the surroundings are truly something to write home about. Barren and spare, the concrete carcass that is Prora seems to stretch on forever. A reminder of a shameful ideology, the place seems to attract far fewer guests than its historical stature would warrant. An air of infinite loss lingers over the rotting buildings, lit up by the evening sun as if still inhabited. Ruined dreams make for strange bedfellows, but if you're to any degree the eccentric type, this is a cannot-miss experience. It's fairly pricey to stay in the building itself, and I cannot say what's it like, but I'd definitely consider it.
