The elegant setting, kind waitstaff, excellent wine recommendations and curated menu are easily a 5/5.However, the unfathomable time commitment of 4.5 hours for the 8 course tasting menu ruined the experience. Despite arrival / reservation time, it was obvious the servers were delaying the next course until the entire rest of the dining room was also ready to proceed. If this is necessary for the chef, then various reservation times should not be an option, or at a minimum, a warning should be posted on the menu with the estimated time of completion for the tasting menu selected. When sitting for a 4.5 hour meal, conversation with your dining partner is a must. But as a two-person party we were seated on opposite ends of an enormous table, and had to raise our voices louder than desired in order to be heard. We are not elderly nor hard of hearing, just simply would prefer not to shout across the void.

It's characteristically French to find a superb quality hotel/restaurant in what appears to be a relatively nondescript town. …

Auberge Saint Walfrid is a lovely family-owned hotel with a one star fine dining restaurant. The historic building dates from the 18th century, however the rooms have been renovated to the highest standards. There is also a newer attachment to the original building from 2019, however our room was in the older part. Our room in the 2nd floor was spacious and had a bathroom with bathtub while the toilet was separate. Shampoo, shower gel, body lotion and conditioner were provided, as were bathrobes.Dinner at the hotel restaurant was amazing, and service impeccable. We had five courses each which we selected from the a la carte menu, but could as well have gone for one of the two set menus. The style of the restaurant is traditional and features local produce. The selection of cheese to choose from was impressive! Most of the staff are bilingual German and French, as is the menu. The wine list is extensive and also contains local wines from the Alsace-Lorraine region.Overall a great experience. One minor suggestion would be to have a different light setup in the hotel room - the light in the hallway is motion-controlled and gets on at night when using the bathroom, this isn't quite optimal.

When entering the hotel lobby, it is obvious that it's a very old but charming building, but the rooms in the new wing are ultra modern and sleek.  …

Beautiful hotel, dotted with antiques and art everywhere, even in lowest priced room where we stayed. Our meals at the restaurant were wonderful. Service and cleanliness were excellent. The town is nice but nothing special. Finding outside activities in the area requires a car.

I recommend the rooms that are decorated with well known artists paintings specially the Claude WEISBUCH one. Of course also the restaurant of the well known Chef, not to be missed.

I decided to stay here whilst driving from the UK to Turkey. It was a very convenient location just a few Kms off the main roads. The hotel is situated in a very quiet location which offers secure free parking.  …

Astonishing value for money as a hotel. The room was huge, with a very substantial bathroom. Bathwater came out of a ceramic lion head! Really comfortable bed, lots of toiletries supplied, and a view over charming grounds. …

One night stop over on my way south, this place lies on the border between France and Germany. Plenty of parking and easy to find. The room was very pleasant and the food and wine was exceptionally good. Friendly staff rounded off a pretty much perfect stay.
